Miracle man -Vs- Painkiller

What are the strengths and weaknesses of each, can they both handle tuning down... harmonics? Palm mutes? Past experiences and what youve though of each

I've had both, the only differences i can hear between the two is:

1) Painkiller has loads more mids than the MM.
2) Painkiller is more versatile than the MM (rolled back cleans etc.)
3) Painkiller is a bit more articulate.
4) MM is a tad more high gain and smooth sounding.

I'm not saying the Painkiller is better with those first 3 things i listed, it just comes down to personal preference, if you like a more smooth sound instead of the grinding mids then go for the Miracle Man.
Though both of them will do what you said in your first post.

I don't think either PK or MM will be far off the mark for what you've asked about.

FWIW I posted this comparison clip a while back.  Hope it helps.

yea thanks antag i listened to the clips and could barely tell the difference both sound really good, the pk seems to be a bit more aggressive tho... more pronounced mids...

They're both high output ceramic pickups that were made for METAL.  The PK has more mids & maybe slightly more output, but the MM has floor-shaking low end.  Both have fantastic clarity & detailed treble.

As Joe says, the MM sounds "smoother".  The PK is a little more "gritty"/"aggressive" - but neither is a shrinking violet by any means :twisted:

The one thing we've not asked that's very important is what guitar would you be installing them into?

Yeah, I was a little shocked too at how much grunt it had :lol:

As others have pointed out before, DC resistance isn't an absolute measure of output level, so PK @ 15.6k vs MM @ 17.8k means nothing....

i think the main difference in output perception is their voicing
the PK is definitely brighter and overloaded with all kinds of mids
the miracle man has piercing highs, but it's a very dark pickup IMO (not in a bad way)
but middy pickups tend to push the distortion harder

i've traded my lp copy with the mm set for a tube power amp head,  tube rack preamp, 1x12 cab and rack case
i'm already missing it :(
i'm planning to buy a gibson lp custom in about 6 months (if the money permits), so i'll buy another MM set for it (or for my hurricane lp and then i'd put the hd/cs set on the gibson)

I actually have a question concerning the output.  I have a MM in my SG and it is kind of "medium hot". Both the Seymour Duncan JB on my baritone (which obviously uses very heavy strings) and EMG81 on my Eclipse noticably drive the preamps on my amps more than the MM.

I'm not surprised about the EMG but the JB?? Is something maybe wrong with my MM?

Crank the height up on your MM and the power will come up with it.

i have one doubt about it too

both can handle Blastpicking(alternate/tremolo Picking as they say) Better than the Nailbomb?
my only complain with teh nailbomb is this, the rest is Awesome.
it lacks a little bit of definition when i palm mute it and use the blast picking,commonly used in Black/death MetalLiek Dissection, At The Gates,Dismember.
