I've used a JCM800 (stock, no pedals) and a set of Warpigs in a Les Paul live before - turned up, that thing is damn heavy as its very middy, clean and open.

Heaviness isn't all about distortion kids ;). I find distortion tends to focus a sound.

Ok - put a pedal or EQ in front of it or in the lop and add a noise gate , but you get to sculpt the tone that comes out and you have the chance for a few options just by changing a pedal.

And so many companies have made it their business to make pedals that match the Marshall really well.
You could see it as a strength rather than a weakness

With a boost and good cab, Laney GH50Ls can get pretty heavy - I want to try one with an Orange as I hear they make everything sound even bigger.

I think I was taken a little out of context. Just saying the heaviest sound I've had is thru that rig. Normally I boost the shite out of my 800 with a Big D to focus the tone for metal!
