Hi, I am puzzled to as what is the diffrence between a Patriot and a Red Coat in the line of speakers. http://www.eminence.com/pdf/tone_guide.pdf

So far i only had a chance to try the Eminence Tonker and Tonker lite through a Gries 35 and 5 respectivesly http://griesamps.com/

I am just flirting with the Idea to upgrade my Vintage 30 maybe to a Eminence Texas Heat, Private Jack,The Governor,Red Fang or The Tonespotter :lol:

patriot = american sound (fender, ampeg, crate, peavey, randall, old mesa)
red coat = british sound (marshall, vox, laney)
(in their conception, of course)

What tone are you looking for? I have a Texas Heat and it falls someway between a Jensen C12N and an early Celestion G12 (if that makes sense) - has a range from Southern Rock (think the solo on Sweet Home Alabama) to London Blues (Beano era Clapton like 'Steppin Out'). It doesn't really have the chug chug of the V30.

Thx man. From hearing the Clips i like The Wizard best, but The Tonker when i heard it in person was very Full and warm. And in the clips The Wizard sounds alot brighter and crisp then the Tonker. Im afraid it might be too bright when i hear it in person.

I've narowed it down to Cannibis Rex, The Tonker,The ToneSpotter. Its going into a Ceriatone BlackFace 5 watt Vibrochamp.

I swapped my 2 G12T-75s for wizards and the improvement in tone was huge. The distortion sounds so much ballsier and meaty than before and the cleans are bit fuller now. The only downside is probably the slight loss in sparkle in the clean sound but the massive distortion makes so well up for it.

I have a Cannabis Rex. Its pretty cool but i wouldnt use it as a standalone, rather in a mix with another speaker.

I have Wizard, Tonespotter, Ramrod, Delta Demon, Lil Buddy and Blue Tick Hound in different cabinets. I would try the blue tick hound with a 5 wat amp. It sounds great with the Minimat and my 8w tube. It is a lower power speaker than the others and drives really sweetly. I like the wizard with more power. The tonespotters work great with 20/25 watts into them.

Would a used Cab with 1x12 Cannibis Rex for 139.500 GBP be worth it?

For vibrochamp I wouldn't use a C Rex, or if I did I would mix it. For true Champ tones you could use an exact copy of the original Jensen C12N (not the new reissues), which is the Red, White and Blue.

I personally favour the Texas Heat - it gives you all the Fender tones and has a great distortion on top. I have one in my Blues Junior and it roars. Although this is heresy on these boards I wouldn't bother with British style speakers in a Champ, in my view they just don't cut it with the Blackface circuit.

139 for a 1x12 and a C Rex is OK - the C Rex goes for about £50 from Blue Aran and you can get unloaded Blackface Deluxe style cabs off ebay for £90.

Well I have heard Tonker through a Gries 5 watt ( BF clone) It sounds awesome. I have a 1x12 Vintage 30 so this is either an add-on or a stand alone.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the Vintage 30 wouldn't sound anything like the original speaker in a VibroChamp.

Then again, is it written in stone that the original Jensen is always the best choice in 2007 for a VibroChamp? I'm generally a fan of all things vintage, but other speakers may sound as good or better, depending on the sound you're after.

Im not after anything vintage (but still a fan thou) or a spot-on vibrochamp but juz my own tone. Which keeps changing :lol:

Cannabis Rex is more of a clean sounding speaker, It's really nice with Fender style amps.

Governor and Wizard are fantastic OD choices, the Private Jack is also a nice option but I think the Chinese M25 Celestion Greenback is a better choice.
