Sooooo as you may have seen from seconds out and other forums I'm looking for a used higain amp.
So far on the list is...!
cornford mk50 and cornford 4x12 - £1200
bogner shiva £900
mark3 £1100
soldano hotrod £800
dual rectum fryer £900
vht ultra super lead £1100
vht sig x £1100
Any one else know of any other deals around or have any opinions on the above? The vht ultra lead has me really interested but the stigma of the new vht vs fryette brand is a big turn off ... silly perhaps but still....

Don't know about a lot of the amps you're looking at, but the Shiva is not a high gain amp - no more than a JCM800 really. The Bogner's you might want to look at are the XTC (maybe a bit low gain to be considered a high gainer) and the Uberschall.
It all depends on your budget really. I really like Diezel amps, personally. I'd go for an Einstein (high gain with a slightly more vintage feel) if I had the cash.
Also, you need to look at a Peavey 5150/6505 - even though they are a bit cheaper, they are reasonably well made, and have a classic high gain sound. You may love them !
There's also Engl, which are not priced too unreasonably in the UK.

A friend of mine has a VHT Ultra Lead; I really like it!
-
Cheers both 8)
The budget is no more than £1200 or so hence looking at used. I've not seen any used Diezels but the VH4 looks tasty.
-
got my 5153 for £1099 new from GAK

+1
brunetti xlr-evo might be worth a look too, i really liked it when i tried it.
what do you mean by high gain?
-
If you're going to get a Dual Rec. Get an older 2 channel one! Much better tone
-
I really, really want a Diezel Herbert for my uber-gain tones... :(
-
Highgain for brootalz or highgain for creamy leads?
If brootalz, you need an Uebershall: http://www.bogneramplification.com/customshop/UberPatrick1.mp3
-
Get a Koch ( I should get a job as a koch rep) :D
A Powertone II with a BBE Sonic Maximizer, a mm in the bridge of your axe and blow your $%in windows out!
-
i too am looking for an ultra high gain head..... however my budgets abit smaller...:( .... 700 ish

don't know about that - I do like the 2-ch ones better, but thats just coz they have the classic DR tone whereas the newer 3-ch ones aren't as gainy and have more of a 'Marshally' vibe.

Highgain for brootalz or highgain for creamy leads?
yeah, that's kind of what i meant when i said "what type of high gain?" :)
-
If you know of a Bogner Shiva at 900£,i would be very interested myself !Must be a EL34,though..Where?

Have you heard Nollys VH4? Sounds incredible and has more than enough gain on hand!
-
Ye brootalz amount of gain...
That Uberschall clip kicks ass! Viking it's in guitar experience
Cheers for the advice all!

What about this Splawn?

do you want a br00talzs voicing?
-
Nice one Hunter, I'll read up on it.
Dave-I want it to be able to do heavy but not limited to it if you get me.
I want something tight and agresive with a fast attack and at-least 2 chans, the clips on the Diezel site are as close as I've heard 8)

That Splawn is a great price!

ok, thanks.
diezels are nice. i've only tried the vh4, i did really like it. expensive, though (not a problem if you really like it, of course).
engls are probably worth a look too... just avoid the fireball as it's not too versatile.
brunetti xlr-evo, as i already mentioned.
the cornford heads might get to the modern stuff- i've only tried the combos, to me they could do modern metal at a pinch but were more suited to hard rock/classic metal... but i hear the heads might get a bit more modern. worth a try, anyway.
soldano... really liked the avenger i tried. again, can get modern but not limited to that.
vhts are sweet too, but expensive for what you get i think... again, not a problem if you really like it, but like the diezels, worth bearing in mind.
oh yeah, bogners are sweet too, i can't remember how heavy the ecstacy got (but it was awesome). haven't tried the ueberschall unfortunately. again, there's the price thing, they aren't cheap.
big problem when they get really expensive (e.g. diezel, vht, engl se, bogner) is that you then start wondering if you might be better off splitting the budget to get two amps aimed at different things. that way you don't need to worry so much about versatility, and you can get an amp which is perfect for a certain tone. often the more expensive amps have better tone... but often you're also paying for features, umpteen channels etc. too, which you might not need (especially if you go for two amps).
probably not helping, i'm just going through everything i've tried and saying you might as well try it...

it is a help Dave 8)
I'm tempted by a VHT UL EQ but I haven't actually tried one.
-
Lew, where are you based?
Sounds great in Cheadle has some in. VHT's that is, or whatever they're called now

+1 for SoundsGreat they carry pretty much all the high end cool stuff. If you want a Brootalz Splawn you'll probably edge more toward the Nitro, which carries greater low end kick. The Quickrod will give you pure lynch mind you and that's brootalz enough for me 8).

I have! It's awesome, just as i was going through clips the Herbert seemed to have this certain voicing in it that i really loved, but if i can get that out of a VH4 i'd probably prefer the VH4 as it's lower wattage and more versatile (i think?)

I owned the 100W Eini, very nice amp. Can do higain but also classical tones well. It's very good value for money, too. I would consider as well an Egnater Mod 50 or the soon to be released Renegade 50. I think it's got spectacular tones and features at a killer price and will make a big buzz in the amp market when it comes out: http://www.egnateramps.com/Video.html
Edit: If one channel is fine, I can highliest recommend the Avenger. Played it once in a shop and couldn't get my hands off it (though I need a proper clean channel for my band): http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250371753983
-
No UK distributor though :x
-
Come up to Manchester and try mine if you like!
Egnaters are seriously amazing! The new renegade looks great too, just not as versatile
-
Where did you get it from and thanks for the offer 8)

Direct from Egnater
