OK - have put this up as a new topic with a more easily understood title - wondered if the old title put some folks off
The other thread is still here http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=post;msg=288755;topic=21324.60;sesc=304ebcdd9f8df9b5e0295e063a5c2f9b (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=post;msg=288755;topic=21324.60;sesc=304ebcdd9f8df9b5e0295e063a5c2f9b)

Every now and them many of us BKP forum users get together , and finally get to meet each other face to face , drink beer , check out each others guitars and generally have a good laugh. Theze have been great fun in the past and have also made the forum even more fun and lively as friendships have been further cemented etc.

This time I have decided to act as host  and will probably put on a display of some of my handmade guitars as well .

I have a really great venue which is part rehearsal/gig venue, part bar.

Please note this isn't just a closed circle of friends getting together - in spite of many of us having made each other's acquaintance before.
It is open to any of the BKP forumites (even if you haven't posted)
It will be a fun afternoon and be a great chance to get to know other guys like yourselves who are mad about guitars and pickups, amps and stuff.
We are not pro level players and it isn't an organised jam session in any way
We usually end up just trying out each others guitars and having a laugh and all learning stuff (the fun way)

There aren't many rules (apart from being nice to each other and not nicking each others guitars, picks or beer)

Feel free to pop along - you don't have to bring a guitar or anything , although you will be very welcome to

The event will run from 2 till 7pm (longer in the bar later perhaps) on Sunday 18th July
It is upstairs at The Scream Lounge
Scream Studios
20A Southend
Croydon
Surrey
CRO 1DN

Nearest rail = South Croydon, East Croydon (probably busiest station) or West Croydon (London Overground as well)
Lots of buses running to outside the studio as well
Road users - South End is part of the A235 and is easily accessed from M25/M23/A23

See maps here
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl&q=20%20southend%20croydon (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl&q=20%20southend%20croydon)

Mods - can we have this as a sticky topic please

Ill be there dudes!

I'm bringing my Koch and all my guitars. I may as well if I'm driving. I'll bring my tascam recorder too, for some clips. Or if anyones going with a good laptop with a DAW installed and an audio interface, I've got a SM57. We could record some clips. Just a thought with cranked amps and mic'd up cabs.

... never get tired of quoting "Koch"...

Although my ears are still ringing from the last time I heard it.

I'll be attending this and driving down. If anyone is from the Northants area (or MK or Luton, I've gotta go thru those to get there) then I can pick up and drop off if you're willing to split petrol?

I'll be bringing both my shagged non-BKP Gibsons to the meet.

I'm very close to MK and Luton... but work commitments mean I can't really give a final answer until the day before - would it be ok to come back to that offer in a few weeks?

I really want to come to this, but need to swap a callout shift at work first, so for now I'm a "Tentative".

If I can make it, does anyone have any particular requests for what I bring?  I'm thinking my full Engl Savage + brutal 4x12" setup, a pedalboard & one or two guitars.  Or I could just bring the SE preamp/MJW Goldstar & a few more guitars and just use whatever cabs are there.  Problem is, I can't fit my 4x12 plus the larger Jackson cases in the car at the same time...

George - remember we are upstairs!
Humping 4x12s may  be irksome

I will be showing quite a few guitars too - not sure how many yet

George, the studio will have 4x12 cabs for hire. It depends how your Engl sounds through your cab. You may want to hear it flat out with he Engl cab.
I'm taking my cab. It would be interesting to hear the differences of the amps

Can't you put the guitar cases on the back seat and the amp and cab in the boot or use the rear foot wells?  :)
Humping 4x12s up the stairs is no problem for two of us. My back is a hell of a lot better than the meet we had last year. (I had to get Philly and gWem to carry my Koch up the stairs!)

Edit could you borrow a car with more space?

Title: Re: London BKP forum Members meet up - July 18th 2-7pm
Post by: Antag on June 27, 2010, 02:28:43 PM
Well, the whole point of bringing the Engl would be to show the entire rig off - the CL80/K100 brutal cab is a big part of the sound (it's not half as nice into V30s).  I've carried the 4x12 up stairs on my own before so I know I can do it.

It's an either/or choice between Jacksons & the Engl cab in my car: the only place the Jacksons will fit is in the rear footwell with the back seat up or lengthways with the back seat down.  The 4x12 needs the back seat down but takes almost the whole width (so I can't fit in a Jackson as well).  If I bring the full Engl rig, I'm limited to a few strat/soloist/LP/PRS sized cases in the passenger seat.

Anyway, let's see if I can get my shift swapped out before I start making any plans :)

I had to get Philly and gWem to carry my Koch up the stairs!

  You just had to start this again didn't you?

George, how many guitars with the full Engl rig can you get in the car? Even if you get a couple in, it has to be worth it.
I'd love to hear it. Especially after you fitted new valves.

It should be very good for amps so far with the Engl, Engnator and Koch.

At least 3, maybe as many as 5

It's only the larger Jackson cases I can't bring (which rules out my RR1T, KV2 & Kelly) but that still leaves a dozen or so other guitars to choose from :)

Guys - one thing to keep in mind if bringing a lot of guitars is that because the invitation has been thrown open to folks that we may not have met before (and Afghan Dave also put it up on Facebook) is that we must give more thought to security - keeping a watchful eye out for each other's stuff etc.

Last thing we want is for someone unknown (or known) to take advantage of a situation and walk off with someone else's guitar.

Shall we swap mobile numbers (via PM) so that when someone arrives, we can all help ferry gear from car to room in one journey while someone else watches over stuff?

Good idea, although I had been thinking within the venue itself as well.

There is a pay and display carpark opposite the venue although there is also some free on-street parking too , but do check to make sure your vehicle is appropriately parked and paid for rather than have bother with traffic wardens.

I saw the facebook page. Its just occurred to me reading your post Jonathon, that there maybe non bkp forum members there. Last time we met it was all forum members so trust wasn't an issue. Perhaps we should ask Dave about his page and what sort of response he's had from non BKP members. I'm sure it will be ok with a bit of common sense and awareness. It goes without saying that if anyone tries to steal my Koch I'll stamp on their head!

On to the day. Last time we met it was a free for all. It's not good having three amps competing against each other so some kind of system is required. I thought revolve guitars through different amps one at a time, otherwise it just gets painful!

George, that's loads of Guitars mate!

Approx 18 people!

Consider the page removed.  :?

Dave - I certainly wasn't mentioning it in any negative way , more just thinking aloud that if people are bringing half their arsenal it may prove tricky keeping a watchful eye over everyone's gear (as well as my own stuff which will be there in force)

I was really just thinking that this time more than previous meets we may get some new faces (and make them welcome too) but that some folks may randomly turn up & be an unknown quantity and we should be aware of leaving gear unwatched.

Actually I didn't realise that the facebook page was viewable by so few - you hear about teenagers getting their houses mobbed through announcing birthday parties on facebook in the papers and you wonder how the party details get out

It's the total lack of air-conditioning that makes things so uncomfortable here.

The London Underground is actually dangerous at times like this....  heat + stagnant air and claustrophobia can really hit some people hard.

I'm fine in the hot summer of New York because you can escape the heat and the subway is ice cold.

+1.  Coming home from Canary Wharf to Stratford on the Jubilee line yesterday, I thought I would pass out, it was that hot.  Generally OK if the train's moving - but, hey! - this is the LONDON underground, and so naturally it stopped every few minutes...

How about two different studios on this meet. One for high gain one for everything else.

Hot eh? You want to try driving a lorry around London. Mind you because I'm so tough I wore a parka with a furry hood and turned the heater up full.

It was ff hot yesterday so rather than roast to death in traffic jams I used my iPhone to look at the jam spots on the TFL cam app and avoided them and kept moving thus ensuring a constant airflow in the cab.  :D Who was it who said iPhones were cr@p!  :P

Boo! what about National Express coaches?

National Express are cheap enough (£16.00 return), but its 7.5 hours each way - with my arthritis I'd be aching like f*uck after sitting down for that long  :(

Easyjet are a joke too - thick end of £100.00, then transfers from Stanstead into Kings Cross and Tube all-dayer.

Think it's gonna be a no-show for me I'm afraid.

Easyjet are a joke too - thick end of £100.00, then transfers from Stanstead into Kings Cross and Tube all-dayer.

Think it's gonna be a no-show for me I'm afraid.

Yes - its holiday season so peak travel time - hence ££££

What should I bring?

  • Feline Superstrat = Warpig + Dimarzio Fast Track 1
  • BC Rich Gunslinger Retro = Miracle Man
  • Ibanez RG570 - Dimarzio Super Dist + Trilogy + Dimarzio FRED
  • Ibanez RG Dessert Yellow = Iron Gear Steamhammers + BKP Trilogy
  • Fender Strat - Dunlop 6000 frets = Duncan Custom Custom + Alnico Pro 2 SCoils
  • Epi Les Paul Custom = Iron Gear Hot Slags
  • Fender Japan P Bass

Yes...

Seriously, though, they all sound a bit metal for me... I'd love to see any of them!

Looks like I might be down to one geetar myself. My preference is my IT'd Roadworn 60s strat, but Philly wants to hear Sultans, and they're in my Roadworn 50s strat.

So it's looking like one strat from me (possibly two if I feel strong).

Other (servicable and carryable) alternatives are:

Other (servicable and carryable) alternatives are:

  • Tokai Love Rock with Mules (definitely one guitar only if it's that one)
  • Gibson Faded SG Special with Riff Raffs
  • Brian May Guitars Red Special with, er, Brian May pickups (Burns tri-sonic)

No pressure Andy, I'll be happy to hear whatever you feel like bringing!  :)

I'll just be sittin' and listenin'!

^ Oooh, Philly, the Sultan's are getting edged a bit... (actually, I find the Roadworn 50s more enjoyable to play at the moment, it's just the 60s one is so "me")

The Baja is a distinct possibility though, it hasn't been used or restrung for months, and is due a workout...

In fact, unless there's anything else we have that he's averse to, Roo could come into our living room without being sick at the moment... there's no way that you could tell that we are in fact a telecaster-rich establishment.

I've been meaning to change that state-of-affairs for some time... I'll get Alice the Baja out, and see if I can get her singing this weekend :D

In which case I won't bring my Baja then...

Given that - what should I bring?

Les Paul Special with BKP P90s
Surf Green strat with BKP 60s set
not so light Mex strat with Mother's Milks (currently being given the Earvanna treatment by Feline)
Fender Esprit with Mules (as seen at the first meet)

It looks like I'll be home for this.
Would love to check in.
I've got the Gibson Gold Top with BKP91's
An unknown Gibby copy with Black Dogs
Baja tele with BG 50's (hey, who hasn't?)
Partscaster with IT's

I'm hoping to be picking up a Vox AC15C1 today if somebody gives me any kind of deal.
If anyone fancies a go I'll get Lady Billt to load it into the back of the motor

I was wondering that. I'd be quite happy to bring something else if there's already another  guaranteed "Baja with BG50s".

I'm itching to bring both Roadworn strats for example, but I could also be talked into one Roadworn strat and a MIJ Custom Tele with Yardbirds...

MQed SG and 'Divered tele ok for everyone? I'll be driving most likely from Ipswich, again offer is open for anyone Suffolk/Essex based to nab a lift. Any word on parking near the venue?

It's a bit of a cheeky request but if you don't ask, you don't get!!

I do have a couple of (MIJ Epiphone) LP Juniors, but I've brought one to a BKP meet before and I was thinking I might bring something different this time.  Plus I'm too weak/unfit/old/lazy to bring two guitars on public transport.  Sorry!  :(

Probably not, sadly.  I wanted to bring it, it's an awesome rig & I'm very proud of it.  But my plans for the day have changed - I'm going somewhere else first before coming to Croydon & it's just not practical to have the stack in the car for the first part of the day.

I certainly won't be coming empty handed though... :)

Oh yeah, I also have a Custom Shop Jackson Kelly 7, with 7*7s (they aren't that offensive as it's maple bodied but could be better). I'll see if I can pick it up along with the BMs.  :P

Well, I'm ready :D

Yardbird tele just restrung and polished and ready to twang like a good un...

The "more favoured" 60s Roadworn strat (ITs) in a slightly less better state  - strings went on the other night and have unfortunately been played to death today in a Rory Gallagher mood (the bridge block was replaced at the same time, and, er, "buggered" by the hamfisted tw@t who thought he had a 10/32 arm when really it was a 5mm arm  - so it's now in the same state as Rory's: "I never use it - it fell off and I never fixed it"). I've had an absolute ball playing it today - but I'm not convinced she'll be in her best light "strings-wise" tomorrow...

EDIT: JP666, unless there's some disasterous punch-up and major falling out tomorrow, I am sure there'll be another one :D

I checked with the venue and it's all good for tomorrow - they also have a 14 room rehearsal studio complex just behind the bar - so feel free to check it out .
The bar will be open for drinks and snacks.
We have no end of good restaurants on the same street so if you stay out past dinnertime you can  find some decent nosh.

I am planning on bringing a nice display of guitars too - there's a couple of new ones there as well!
I'll bring a mix of prime stock and some ex demo stuff too - just to make it fun.
I can bring some Feline T-shirts and strings along if anyone is keen to buy/try

Please feel free to bring cameras etc so we can post up pix showing the fun

Many thanks to Jonathan for organising/hosting the day.  It was a cool venue & there was a great array of guitars - an impressive rack of Felines & at least as many guitars again brought by the various attendees.

It did get rather loud at times - though it struck me that the old guys playing blues were louder than the youngsters playing metal, which was perhaps the opposite of what you might expect... :)

I didn't play much myself, apart from trying to join in the "old guy" blues jam & realising one or two notes in that my guitar was tuned to Eb but the other 3 were in E.  First time I've ever played blues in "F".  Actually, first time I've ever played blues with blues players.  AndyR deserves a special mention for some great blues playing on his IT-loaded strat - such great phrasing & feel.

Chris' 2 (two!) Blackmachines were seriously nice guitars - first time I've ever handled one, really beautiful guitars to look at & play.

My day started rather early, encompassing a 200+ mile detour to pick up a guitar I purchased from a forum member (I'll post the NGD thread later), I've drive around 330 miles today & I'm exhausted to my very core.  Will post pics later...

Great to meet some new faces and old mates again. There was some seriously tasty guitars in there today. So many nice ones, I couldn't pick out a favourite, they were all good.

Great pics too, I didn't realise I gurned!
The Koch let 'em have it at 120 watts in the 4 ohm output. You could feel the stage shaking.  8)

I didn't want to go home

Was a great day to be sure! The HTH amp sounded fantastic, really something good there :) The flat-top Feline Lion with the piezo bridge sounded very cool, am thinking seriously about getting one of those bridges for my LP now! Coil-splitting the Mule and MM in HairyChris' Blackmachine B2 was very eye opening too-- another mod that i'll probably be doing soon :) Some great playing in there, notably AndyR and Clydebuilt! Pretty cool afternoon, bring on meet #5! (i think that's where we're up to now)

Thanks to Feline for sorting it out, and bringing all his guitars down-- really appreciate it!

I had a great time, I haven't played a guitar at gig volume for many years now - it was a serious blast being able to do so :D

HTH - that amp of yours is fabulous. You might not have been able to make it down, but you were very much there "in spirit" for me certainly

After reading about the amp a while back, I was expecting it to be good, and to be versatile. However, I wasn't expecting it to be quite my cup-of-tea... Boy was I wrong... it was a match made in heaven for the strat I brought along and the playing mood I was in. It took very little effort to dial in an "oh yeah, I'm playing now" tone. I used it mainly on Gain 1 alone, with the Slope between midway and leaning towards "Fender", and the mid-shift over to the higher end (seemed to suit my ITd strat better).  I then controlled it with the strat's volume and tone - it is so well suited to that way of doing things. I played my Yardbird tele through it as well, treating it the same - absolutely heavenly :D. I also heard it doing other tones that, on a different day, I'd want as well (Afghan Dave's "Nigel Tuffnell" moment of infinite sustain using the black Feline Lion  - that was a seriously good "LP tone" :D)

The only thing that stopped me wrestling this amp from Jonathan's grasp (or messaging you with a "make me one") is that, like my AC4TV, most of the time I'd have to run it at a volume that just wouldn't let all this beautifulness come out... :(

What it has done though (I've got a day off today) is given me some very useful experience for tweaking of models in my Tonelab - I'm never gonna get the vibe I experienced yesterday, but I'm fairly certain I can get it a lot closer than the patches I've been happy with for months.

I also really enjoyed playing the AC15 that Clyde brought - another amp I'd happily take on stage - thanks for bringing that, Clyde, and that Gold Top looked lovely. I really meant to "have a go" on the Gold Top, like several other guitars I watched or had a look at, but when it came to it, I just didn't seem to be able to put my own strat down (we've been kinda "joined-at-the-hip" for some months now).

Johnny's Koch, though, I did manage to "experience", finally - and very glad I did. That one does fall into the "lovely but not actually my cup-of-tea" category. However, that might be because I've never managed to get on with playing through a 4x12, and there are a bunch of options on the Koch that I didn't really have time to investigate. It does chuck out some lovely tones though, and, er, volume (!).

There were some seriously pretty guitars there. I'd never seen a Blackmachine close up before, and while I probably wouldn't ever feel the desire to use one, they looked mighty beautiful. Oli's Les Paul - I got distracted just before I was about to touch it, didn't I? - that looked extremely righteous. Oh, I know, it was (HairyChris's?) PRS with a rosewood neck - had to fondle that neck to see what the fuss is about... yep, I can definitely see the point of rosewood neck :D.

Philly's Roadworn - nearly forgot this - I was half expecting it to appear (is there a NGD thread up yet?), but I wasn't expecting to like it so much... Woo! very nice. Elliot's Les Paul Special - that looked SO tasty, it's another that I fancied having a go on but never got round to it.

Fantastic array of guitars from Jonathan. I snuck a preview of the chambered lion cub - very nice - and then kinda gravitated naturally to the one next to it... which turns out to be Jonathan's "I don't want to sell this one". Afghan Dave seemed very taken with the black one next to it. A couple of times I wondered whether I was brave enough to strap on the Korina V - I did hold it for a moment, it's amazingly light. Glad to see it got a run in Clyde's hands - I must have been otherwise engaged when that happened (beer and fags outside).

I've just realised that I didn't try any Felines through an amp.... Oh well, what I did discover though was that all the Felines that I tinkled felt fabulous and had that "my guitar" vibe. Personally, that was one of the things that had been worrying me about the idea of getting a guitar custom-made - what if it didn't feel like "my guitar" when it was finished? I'm fairly certain that this is a needless fear now (I guess that others can testify to this as well :D).

Finally, it was great to be able to jam with some folks. I hit it off most with Clyde and Johnny yesterday - my current "comfort zone" seemed to fit perfectly with how they were playing. I'd like to have had time/opportunity to stretch out a bit further though, and follow other people's direction a bit more. For example, it was a bit of a shame that when he first plugged in Antag was stuck in Eb in the middle of a boogie-war-zone . I was just getting interested in exploring "how do I fit my clean/crunch strat in standard tuning to your wall-of-sound in Eb" (that was a monster tone by the way :D) when another boogie-in-A kicked off, and the next time I looked up you'd gone again!

Fantastic afternoon. Many many thanks to Jonathan for organising it :D

Oli's Les Paul was an absolute belter, you missed out on that one Andy....  :good: Jonathan's 25 scale LP and the chambered one were also rather nice. A bit sticky, but I'm a raw wood neck fan. Johnny's Shovel, sorry Charvel, was a sweet one too.

And I'll +1 on the blues players out-louding any metal that went on, hehehe.

Oh, THAT was clyde billt & PhillyQ - sorry, it was so loud in the room when you introduced yourselves & I didn't want to keep asking you to repeat yourselves

Having played it in the workshop, I'm not convinced - it's very useable down at home volume.  Then again, maybe this metaller is more easily pleased :) you seem to play a lot in that crunchy, just breaky-up clean zone that I rarely venture into, so perhaps you need to drive it within an inch of its life to get that tone/feel

For example, it was a bit of a shame that when he first plugged in Antag was stuck in Eb in the middle of a boogie-war-zone . I was just getting interested in exploring "how do I fit my clean/crunch strat in standard tuning to your wall-of-sound in Eb" (that was a monster tone by the way :D)

Yeah - I used the 4x12 cab that was there, an old tatty looking Marshall.  No idea what the speakers were but my SL-X sounded very full through it - even more so with the HD/IT loaded korina strat.  I enjoyed attempting to play in "F" to stay in key - the 3 of you were having a seriously good time & playing some really good stuff there.

Sadly only one of my pics came out - a pic of Afghan's yellow Ibanez leaning against the wall in the corner - that thing seriously needs pink BKPs... :)

I didn't want to go home

Me neither - the 3½ hours I was there flew by, but after so much driving I was exhausted & needed to get home.

Experience isn't really a necessity, you can use something like this as an introduction if you like. And interesting guitars, whatever the pickups, seem to be welcome!

Yes - I'd like to echo that sentiment
We had a good selection of BKPs in our display stock - along with some Duncans and EMGs for comparison purposes
Some guitars that got brought along by others had the stock pickups and it was good to compare tones etc.

I want to extend a HUGE thanks to The Scream Lounge  who allowed us to hold this event and were kind enough not to charge us for the hire of the room as it was the first time for us and thy wanted to see how well it would work out (and were cool as long as we all bought drinks at the bar, which wasn't badly priced either.)

The other best thing was that the venue was AIR CONDITIONED so we all stayed cool.

If everyone was happy with the location I will look to do it again sometime - either as a BKP meet-up or as a Feline Guitars open day.

That guitar is phenomenal! The sustain and feel...

"You could go grab a bite and when you came back you'd still be hearing that one..."

Jon should really allow it to live with me for a little while as it would be a cold man who would break up such a pure and honest relationship ...  :(

As always it was great to meet with you all in person, have chat, a beer and a smoke...

The blues won the day. Even the Koch was tamed (though I wouldn't say it was flaccid  :? )

Thanks to Jon/Feline for organising such a good venue.

A massive personal thank you to Johnny Mac for giving me a lift home.. it had been a long day and I was knackered!

I'm just going to log on to "Mumsnet" to chat with lonely housewives and I'll be back later!  :D

Just wanted to add my thanks to Jonathan and the rest of the guys (and gal) from Feline for setting up an excellent venue.
Marshalls and Newcastle Brown. Rock nirvana for an "old blues guy".

The day really flew in and I didn't get enough time to try all the tremendous gear that was there.
Thanks Antag for letting me play through your great marshall and pedal board (forgot to ask what the wah pedal was), and cheers John for letting me try out your big koch. I enjoyed keeping it clean sounding which it does rather well.
Elliots LP junior has given me GAS. As did the Feline V. And of course that f*kin tremendous HTH amp
I wanted to have as go at Chris's beautiful 7 string Blackmachine but was a bit intimidated.

A very nice bunch of gear obsessed guitar slinging tone geeks. Looking forward to the next one
I knew it was gonna be a great day when I heard Andy knocking out some top riffs when I came in. Cheers Andy and John for the blues jammin'.
Yeah we were loud. We play electric guitar from waaayy back  :D

What really made my day was playing Johns 25th Anniversary Strat. A long time desire from the moment I first saw one
Top Of The Pops. March 1983.

It was a Dunlop Crybaby 95Q - auto switching with the pedal spring loaded in the back/off position like a Bad Horsie, only with a mechanical rather than optical switch.  It also has tiny knobs on the side for Q & boost.  Cool little pedal for my "small" board, but I prefer the Bad Horsie...

It was nice to meet Alexa as well, though I get the impression she found the Koch a bit much loud ;)

I had my first go on VHII'S at the meet too. In Jonathon's personal Feline Lion. Oh god the tone was amazing. The guitar is jaw droppingly gorgeous of course. It's the one I'm playing with the guitar face on to the camera.
Cameron and I had some great harmonic feedback going on at one point when I was playing it. I really enjoyed jamming with you and Andy, you're both great guitar players :)
There was so many fantastic guitars there it wasn't enough time to play them all even in 6 hours.  Next time George, we can have a sound off, Deutchland V Netherlands :)

Sad news for me
I'm going to have to sell the HTH amp along with a few other prized pieces as this £3000 pound electricity bill (amongst others) just wont go away and trade has been too slow this year to keep up with the bills.

The amp will be up for £950 ono which is a bargain considering how much work went into designing and building it

Here's me describing the design intentions behind it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi8Tww3gw_M (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi8Tww3gw_M)

Actually it does much more than I describe as it excells with strats and teles in doing blues and rock as well as was proved at the weekend

That is sad :(

If I was pro/semi-pro (and if I had the cash), then I'd bite your hand off on that deal. But I can't see me being able to get what I want out of it at the volumes I have to play at most of the time.

I can't praise this thing high enough - and I wasn't even using it for what it was initially intended!

I am actually one of the crazy fools that sticks his dosh into the guitars, not the amps. You can live with, get decent tones from, and perform successfully with some pretty, er, "low-calibre" gear. And I'm never going to be convinced that "your amp should cost more than your guitar" is a rule that everyone ought to or even needs to follow...

BUT - This amp is the first amp I've ever played where I felt it could be worth (to me) the high price tag I was guessing that it would have to command...

This little beast is seriously good - fantastic work Mr HTH...

But, sad sad news Jonathan - I wouldn't want to have to part with it... :(

Given all that though, I really hope you manage to shift it fast...

To be honest, the price is pretty good for a handwired amp built out of top grade components.

You might well be in the fortunate position of being able to use smaller amps without a problem! Then again, I have never bought a new amp either (as I also tend to spend the money on guitars   ) so my backline is 'distressed' to put it politely. Being a metaller can be an a*se sometimes!  :D

Yep, it's a fine price, no problem with that... (I'm quite surprised I can say that - that's how much I like this one)

My problems are two-fold:

1. I'd have to be using it a LOT quieter than the volume I was playing at the other day. So, unless it's a completely miraculous amp (and HTH therefore needs to be mentioned in the Queen's honours list for services to british guitarists etc), most of the time it won't deliver the utter "omigod" vibe that attracts me to it.

It is quite possible that it does deliver enough "omigod" at lower volumes - and a trip down to Jonathan's to play it at shop-friendly volumes or lower might prove this... and it is a one-off amp... and... and... etc...

Uh-oh, in danger of GAS-ing over an amp.

Which leads me to the second part of my two-fold problem:

2. If I do find it is usable in my situation - I can't actually afford it at the moment!!

My "solution" to GAS is to run away. It works!

I'm not actually in "GAS" difficulites over this one yet - I loved it, etc, etc, but I don't "need" it... yet. If I flirt with it a bit more, visit it, buy it some flowers and chocolates, let it whisper in my ear some more... then I could be in trouble. So to save all that grief I'll stick with what I've got... (and hope it's not there next time I visit Feline Guitars).

Doesn't help Jonathan though  :?

Sorry to hear about that bill rising its ugly head again. Its not easy for small businesses in the UK at the moment.

fwiw, £950.00 for that amp is a really good price - I'd be pricing them closer to £1400 for a new build.

It does sound great at bedroom volumes too, but cranked up is where its best (all amps are that way).  Drop in on Jonathan and have a try of it at low volume - you'll be surprised.

No - it's like every which way I turn there is more money to pay out lately and less and less of it coming in.
The bill didn't go away - it was the result of two years of estimated bills and me missing that they had increased my charges fourfold, which was only realised when the up to date readings went in.
I have renegotiated it a bit but need to raise some money to pay it off.

I find that the tone does make a significant jump when you get loud enough to get ythe speaker going
the amp is best suited to a small studio or an environment where you get let rip a little rather than hoping to play at midnight without waking the neighbours or kids.

The master volume which is a bit different doesn't really go from whisper quiet  to full roar (it's based on the "Jose" master volume mod). I did think about putting one of these in the FX loop (which is post master volume) for really lowering the volume for late night playing
With it switched "off" the control will reset your rhythm volume to whatever lower value you choose

This sounds really negligent Jonathan, have you spoke to the Energy Ombudsman about this?

I've PM'd you with further info.

Yes - have sliced a big portion off that bill and have made plans to deal with it, but life is so expensive of late
Just gotten another wasps nest in the loft that I have to pay to have removed - it's just all un-needed expense!

I just want to get on with all the ongoing custom builds I have in and make the special 2010 Lions, but it's like working with one hand tied behind your back at times.

Were those two the Sykes and Buckethead Lions that were works in progress on your site?

Yes that's the ones ....
I kept the sykes the intended colour - this is the one that Afghan Dave discovered is a endless sustain machine

The Buckethead one I changed my mind on because Gibson just released a Buckethead guitar and there was no point just being the same and I figured signal red would look the business and I was right

I only had a very quick try of the various Felines, unplugged, but I really liked the feel of the neck on the red one - not sure if it was a different shape from the others or not, it just felt good.

Do you have "standard" neck shapes Jon, or are they all effectively one-offs?
