The site does sometimes say that he's not currently accepting new orders - it's a one-man operation.

I have seen that though I have heard that if you ring him and he can accommodate you he will-maybe he doesn't update his site often but my brother called him a few months back and whilst he did not in the end order something, he got a good impression.

His work looks great, and I am sure he has a long queue of players waiting for guitars.

I know what he means about customers wanting spec changes every 2 weeks though  - it is one reason why I get the spec details ironed out prior to a build

I smiled when I read his FAQ page - almost every answer seemed to be a "No - sorry , can't help you or can't do that - go away and stop wasting my time" kind of answer.

I wonder if it has the effect of increasing desire for the product - it seems to work for nightclubs where the bouncers turn you away unless you are fmous A - list or simply a drop dead pretty girl and the desire to get into said club goes up as a result.

I will have to ask Doug from BlackMachine when I speak to him this week whether his "closing his books for new custom orders" has increased the demand as people panic that they wont be able to haver one in the future.

I went to visit John at Bravewood when I went to BK, and he had a lot of guitars on the go.  The big problem he has is the time it takes to age the guitar.  The nitro has to harden enough and depending on the time of year and other voodoo, that takes about 6 months or so.  When you see the finished product, it is well worth the wait.

He does open and close his order books at various times.  I would guess that if you are serious and send an email, he will give you an approximate date for something.
So many pickups, so little time
