"Bacchus" guitars?

I've cancelled the SG order. I decided it's not worth the wait.

Sam and Dave, the Signature LP at Musicground is now £550. When I said to them that it was £500 a couple of weeks ago I was told it was a different guitar that they already sold. What a load of bull. I've got photos of it ffs! It's that attitude of always trying to trick customers that puts me off buying guitars there.

They're still advertising it on Ebay as well I think.

Good luck with what you decide to go for guitar-wise as well.

Music Ground - over priced (rumoured to be fake...) vintage amp selling bar stewards.

Generally, or is this a specific example?

And what's happened to you, Sam?

Phil, turns out my Burny might not be what the seller said it was. Advertised as a 1983 and could be 90s.

Most annoying thing is when I asked originally for authentication he said "you'll have to rely on my expertise" and I trusted him!

Is that from your recent research?  I guess you've seen this article:

Sorry to hear that :(  .  As you know, I had a less-than-perfect experience with that particular seller.

That's the same guy Phil bought his LP off that had less than secure inlays    I always wondered about that guy.  At the prices he charges they should be 100% perfect.

Phil - re. Music Ground it's a well known allegation.  I've heard rumours about 'bitsa' vintage Marshalls, amp parts being aged on the roof, fake '59 Les Pauls............

Yeah I've seen that page.

I don't think we're the only ones either. I did a bit of digging on the Tokai registry forum and a couple of other people were a little miffed about his 'quality control' as it were, and it seems several people have hinted that his prices are really top-end.

 :(

I knew all along that his prices were steep, but I was overcome with boyish enthusiasm at the time.  Well, middle-aged-mannish enthusiasm.

As for Music Ground, that's disturbing.  I've bought a couple of nice guitars from what's now their Denmark Street shop, but it might have been before it was Music Ground, come to think of it.

I think the vintage market in the UK is generally a bit dodgy.  If it's old, it's expensive - never mind if it's obviously a refin or has non-original parts.  They often quote dates that are a good 5 years out.  Much worse if they're deliberately faking stuff.

Yeah same thing for me; too excited to see sense really.. Although I must confess I wasn't aware of how high his prices were at the time. I think I'm a lot better educated nowadays as to what the different models and brands are worth.

I enquired about the Signature Les Paul on eBay, and I asked if they could send it to Manchester for me to check out.  They would if I paid a £250 deposit.  No problem says I, I get my cash back if I don't like it?  No, you get a credit note.  Good job I asked huh?

I'm not going near them again.

Sounds about right. When I bought a '77 JMP MkII (which turns out to be a '79), it developed a fault after a few days, even though they said it was fully serviced. I took it back but they would only give me store credit. I got my Laney VH100R with the money but man was I pissed off. I'm pretty sure that's illegal but I was clueless at the time. Thank god the Laney (which they strongly recommended against) sounds awesome even now.

I think giving credit is something many shops will try to do when you take something back for a refund.  I'm no lawyer, but I think legally they're obliged to give a cash refund.  Unfortunately it's hard to enforce without going to a lot of trouble.
