The Song remains The Same is an excellent DVD. The intro is a bit too 'Easy Rider acid trip' to me but the music is just fantastic. It has the best version of Whole Lotta Love I've ever seen.

That's precisely what I worry about with Zeppelin.  OK, they split for non-musical reasons, but they already felt like they were winding down - longer gaps between albums etc.  I think the split happened at the right time to leave a "complete" musical legacy (although TBH even In Through The Out Door lacked a certain something).

Indeed -- and Sabbath were in this state, too, with the late-period Ozzy albums getting pretty iffy.  The Heaven & Hell album might as well have been a different band. OK, not one that lasted long ;) but it was a shot in the arm for the music while it lasted (before getting iffy again ;)).  Likewise, just before Dickinson left, Maiden were getting a bit dodgy; even though they carried on with Blaze, I think what they did after Bruce came back showed improvement.  Things were better for Bruce -- and Adrian Smith -- going off and doing something else for a while.

Of course, "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love" aren't shining stars in the Beatles catalogue, though we could try making the excuse that the remaining Beatles were limited to working with leftover scr@ps that were perhaps not the greatest moments in John Lennon's song-writing career .....

But maybe the new H&H album will be cool, and I suspect that the surviving LZ members would produce more interesting material together than apart (which doesn't mean it would definitely work ;) just that they'd maybe have a better chance of doing something cool that way.)  Otherwise ... well, I guess whatever riffs Page claims to have been storing up will remain in the closet!

Maybe Led Zeppelin would come up with something fantastic, but if they didn't it would tarnish what went before.

A different name for a slightly different project, perhaps, blending more recent influences from the various separate projects they've worked on (not that Page has done much on his own).

At least they'd never go down the road of bringing in external songwriters or flavour-of-the-month producers.

Or the Santana thing of hauling in loads of younger guests!  That woulda been OK if it had just been Supernatural, I suppose, but then he kept doing it! :P  Iommi did the same on his 2000 solo album, with mixed results, I think, but then got back to business on his Fused album and then with H&H.

Hmmm.  Page, Santana, Iommi .... all great guitarists in search of a band! ;)

Well, let's hope there'll be some kinda recording available on DVD/mp3, I am looking forward to it - as I am looking forward to see the review and gear report in Guitarist Magazine - well I hope they will do it
 :P

I was on business trip in London and on my flight back today read a quite nasty article in Daily Mail about Rock Dinosaurs that should stop gigging and stuiff - really stupid article man.

I read some of that too. Well it is The Daily Mail after all, so it's not going to carry any weight. It seems to me that the critics of 'Rock Dinosaurs' are a bunch of bitter, twisted, jealous, sniveling little tossers. Like anyone cares what a Daily Mail journo's got to say for his sorry self! These muscians won't be around for ever, so I say enjoy them while you can folks cos' when their gone there gone for good.

Anyone's who's a "rock amoeba" now can only hope to last so long as to become a rock dinosaur some day!  8)

(I wonder if the writer of the article thinks he/she himself/herself should stop writing once they themselves reach a "certain age"? ;))

Apparently once you're over 50 you're not allowed to have any passion for music.

:D I`m all for LZ doing another album. I agree most bands run out of steam at some point but what they really need is a good break from the album, tour, album, tour, Routine & also a break from each other as well. Zep have had that. I`m not sure how relevant anything they might write may be in this day & age, but it would be worth hearing surely....

As for the argument of not using the Zep name. To be honest its rubbish & sounds like alot of people trying to be precious. Frankly Grow up ! just for the record JB was the drummer, to my knowledge he didn`t actually write a single song, So what difference is it going to make when writing the album now ?

As for a tour well as JM said there not going to be around for much longer so make the most of it while you can.

 :D  8)

Have you tried Arjen Anthony Lucassen's (as in Star One) Ayreon albums? I have The Human Equation and it's easily the best album I own (it even knocked Deloused in the Comatorium off the top perch (It also trounced Fear of a Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree which, apart from the title track, was a major disappointment to me. I feel I should get Deadwing or Live in Absentia as I know they can be good.). Listen to that and say that guest artists are a bad idea album to album (Devin Townsend's lyrics are trite though; WTF does 'Motion personified alpha' mean. Go Arjen!)
I too use chicken as a measurement.

Funny you should mention that -- I just stumbled across Ayreon the other week on MySpace and kind of dug what I heard! :)  Haven't gotten any farther than that, though (I'm not sure the relatively small local Tower Records, which the best stocked shop I've found so far, carries the album! ;)).

:) I'm not saying they're a bad idea per se, just that when artists start repeating that formula it has tended to get old for me. I'll always be happy to be proved wrong, though! :)
