It's almost that time again ... top 10 CDs of 2007.

This has been a pretty abysmal year for new music, but I think I can muster up a list of 10 CDs.

First 5 coming soon!!

yer, i haven't actually bought many cds this year but

colors by between the buried and me

did (and remains to) blow me away. i'm still finding new things in it. and thats the thing for me about them, they seem to just have such a perfect balance between the different styles in their music. i'm not a full blown blast beat 24/7 decapitated style guy but at times its awesome. and with btbam as soon as i'm starting to getting bored of it they change into a lush clean soundscape. the playing is phenomenal and the opening track on genelecs cranked is unbelieveable. so yeah, thats probably my favourite album of 2007. (systematic chaos was good in places but not good enough for the top spot for me).

I thought this was gonna be easy for me.. but nope.

1) Eagles - Long Road Out of Eden
2) Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos
3) Steve Vai - Sound Theories
4) Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon
5) Paul Gilbert - Get Out of My Yard
6) Dominici - O3 a Trilogy - Part 2
7) Megadeth - United Abominations (quite an ironic title considering what they did to A Tout le Monde... ugh)
8 ) After Forever - After Forever

The rest of the good albums that came out this year, I haven't heard yet. There's some I still have to get that I will probably like, and among them are Opeth - The Roundhouse Tapes, Devin Townsend - Ziltiod the Omniscient, and Planet X - Quantum.
Crawlers, Mule-7s

(1.) Reverend And The Makers - State Of Things
(2.) Down - Under The Over
(3.) Maximo Park - Our Earthly Pleasures
(4.) Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
(5.) Pigeon Detectives - Pigeon Detectives
(6.) Baroness - Red Album
(7.) Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
(8.) Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger
(9.) The Mirimar Disaster - The Mirimar Disaster
(10.) Bjork - Volta
(11.) Babyshambles - Shotters Nation
(12.) Six Feet Under - Commandment

There are probably more too.  If you think there's no good music around at the minute, you're not looking hard enough.  Even the Boss' new record sounds decent on first listen and Richard Thompson's new one is worth a listen.

Errrrm, this just about covers it for me. No particular order:

Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
Buckethead - Pepper's Ghost
!!! - Myth Takes
John 5 - The Devil Knows My Name
Linkin Park - Minutes To Midnight
Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
Reel Big Fish - Monkey's For Nothin' And The Chimps For Free
Minus The Bear - Planet Of Ice
The Donnas - Bitchin' (my album of the year by far)
Coheed & Cambria - Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow

... I think.

errrr the new Two Gallants disk was pretty good. Can't think of anything else semi-decent I've heard this year. Orchestra of Wolves by Gallows was re-released if that counts? Remains by Alkaline Trio was incredible - but it was all old stuff. Dumb Luck by DNTEL was also worth a listen.
LOVING the Mules!

Well, I've got the first half of my list together ...

So, in no particular order --

10. Megadeth, United Abominations
Sociopolitical and religious, cantankerous and preachy ... ah, where would be  without Mustaine's brilliant chops and endless bitching?

Standout tracks: Washington Is Next, Gears Of War, Amerikhastan

9. Rush, Snakes & Arrows
Rush returns with a roundhouse kick straight to the head! Brilliant playing and production. Plus, a folk Zeppelin-inspired instrumental by one of my alltime favourite guitarists, Alex Lifeson. The lyrics once again enter the realm of poetry and social commentary, so get your thesaurus and New York Times out for this one.

Standout tracks: Armour And Sword, Hope, Malignant Narcissism

8. Coheed And Cambria: Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV Part 2: No World For Tomorrow
Less classic rock and more anthemic 80s sounding ... I like! A lot of hollow body guitars used on this one, which only accentuates the Rush worship, but the production is top notch. Aside from the seque The Fall Of House Atlantic, this is Coheed's strongest album, less the drumming.

Standout tracks: Feathers, The Running Free, Gravemakers & Gunslingers

7. Symphony X, Paradise Lost
Probably the heaviest, densest Symphony X album to date. They still retain their trademark sound, but Romeo's orchestration is improved and this sounds much more like an rpg soundtrack than anything else done to date -- more strings/choirs, less shred guitar. Top album!!

Standout tracks: Serpent's Kiss, Paradise Lost, Seven

6. Heaven And Hell, Live From Radio City Music Hall
Do I really need to explain this one??! PDT_008

If you only buy one CD or DVD in 2007, make this it! If you have, but didn't buy this one yet, shame on you!

What are you waiting for? Go!!

Standout tracks: Yes!

What was wrong with the drumming?! Taylor did a fantastic job!

Meh. He makes everything 4/4. Eppard is a far superior drummer, and having seen Penne live now, I would say he's even a notch beyond Eppard.
