Looks tasty Dave.  Not sure how accurate the single OT is though for a JTM45/100 - they had two 50w OT's running in parallel.

From Michael Doyle's book: " The sound character was quite different from that of the 50 watt, and it became even more pronounced when Marshall started to use single 100 watt output transformers for the first production models, made in late 1965."

I think most Marshall historians would agree that when you think of the JTM45/100, you think of the dual-OT heads.  That's the classic sound that they're known for and the same setup that Marshall recently reissued as a JTM45/100.

The very first 100w heads that transitioned from the dual-OT JTM45/100s had single 100w OTs.  They're only technically called JTM45/100s as they had the JTM45 front panels because Marshall didn't yet have the panels for the 100w heads.

I see where you're coming from HTH, but to me and others I've spoken to/read articles from:

* JTM45/100 - four KT66 output valves, shared cathode pre-amp and 56k/250pf tone stack, one or two OTs (an early handful had two OTs, production models were mostly single OT)

* JTM100 - four EL34 output valves, split cathode pre-amp, 33k/500pf tone stack, one OT (a plexi with JTM panels)

* Super Lead Plexi - four EL34 output valves, Super Lead as we all know and love it

The recently reissued 40th Anniversary JTM45/100 had the 56k/250pf tone stack and two OTs.  The Hendrix reissue was a JTM45/100 as above, but with a 33k/500pf tone stack and one OT.  So it sits between a JTM45/100 and JTM100 in my description.  Specs changed all the time as you know, but the above is how I understand it.

There were so few JTM100s made anyway, it's a bit of a chore to define an exact spec for them.  They had a real mix of parts as the transition to Plexi specs happened, but always had EL34 valves and one OT.

Some further digging sugests we're both half right...

* the JTM45/100s produced during '65 were the dual OT ones with the JTM45 panels, KT66s and HUGE PTs.

* the change to a single OT but still with KT66s occurred during '66, however the picture on P.103 of the Doyle book shows a dual OT JTM45/100 from '65 with JTM100 panels which goes against Doyle's statement that no panels were available.

* '67 saw the SLP introduced with JMP panels and EL34s

I've seen lots of oddballs during this period of Marshall's history - it's common knowledge that they were fond of using up whatever stock they had to get amps out the door.  They even made NARB amps eventually for this very reason, love it.

Anyway Dave, stop all this talk of JTM45/100s - you're giving me GAS, I'll be ordering a kit if I don't keep my trigger-finger in check

I'd be interested in DIY'ing one of the prototype JTM45/100s with the four 6V6s and twin GZ34s, bet that'd be a sexy amp.

I'm speaking to Martin tomorrow about him building me one.  Looks like it's a goer though...

The Ceriatone Overtone Special looks stunning and has given me serious GAS, I was gutted to read that Nik's stopped making them after lots of complaints from other elbmuD cloners

I used my JTM45 for a 'DC rehearsal tonight and while it sounded awesome, I was wishing for a bit more volume.

Good God man, how loud do you rehearse ?

Pardon?

We rehearse at gig volumes.  So let's just call it "loud"  :P

Well the deed is done.  Parts go on order shortly and I should have the amp in February   :D   8)

Martin from Martamp is building me a JTM45/100 using the Ceriatone kit as a base. I'm having a regular JTM45 preamp with the addition of a Master Volume, white control panels with chicken head knobs and a Marshall "big box" cabinet with white piping.  It should like a grown up version of my Martamp JTM45, which is exactly what it is   :P

Awesome!
