What Distortion pedals?
« on: December 14, 2007, 12:26:53 PM »
Ok, so what distortion pedals would you recommend? I play a mix of modern and old metal, well more modern. I like it to sound heavy yet clear, if that makes sense? Also I have a set of nailbombs on the way, they should make a difference. :D

Oh and just like to mention I'm new here, so hello.

Out of them, I'd have a Landmine.

Although I'd sooner have a Krank Distortus Maximus...

I've played most of those except the Landmine, but that's the 1 I'd pick!

If your budget can stretch to it, I've heard good things from the G2D Morpheus and HBE FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) when it comes to heavier sounding distortion pedals.

what about the EHX metal muff?

The landmine sounded great when I heard it btw

If you want to spend more then zvex have just made a metal pedal. The youtube clips sound good but it is alot more expensive.

I'm using a line 6 spider II, and tbh I can't seem to get a nice distortion tone out of it, my mate recommended the digitech metal master as you can 'morph' the setting? :s

Cruel but true MR ed, but a good warm distortion in front of them can work quite well

I have a marshall shredmaster clone for sale.

But that's 80's style disto.

Other than that I use a Big Muff for my hi-gain needs.

I've got a big muff (I don't shout that much) that I use to use in my bass days, don't use it so much now though.

Those Dano pedals are more fuzzes despite what they say on the box, so stay away from them.

Flog the Line 6 and get a half decent amp would be a pretty good start!

I've heard good things about the landmine though

The Boss Metal Zone sounds too fake no matter what you use it on. I absolutely detest this pedal. All my other pedals are Boss, though. I have the Boss DS-1 and it suits me fine.

But I have to agree with the statements about the amp. When I worked in a music store I had access to all the amps. The Spider II is an awful amp. It's good if you're just starting out, but a one year student will quickly out grow it. Can't go wrong with a true tube amp!
