I tried the L20H for a few days, and didn't really like it. That doesn't mean that you wouldn't, of course. However, I can say that it is undoubtedly very UN-Fenderish.
If you're looking at 6V6's, then you will be quite limited in this country, especially in that price range. They seem to be more popular in the states. All that really comes to mind straight away is Matamp, as Dave has suggested.
What budget ? Would you really quite like a channel switcher , or not really bothered ?
how about a Spider Valve. I've not tried one, but had heard quite a lot of good reports about them (from people who should have known better !).
personally, I think the Peavey classic 30 is a great, flexible reasonably-priced combo, that is surprisingly good at low volume too.
