That's nice wez, nothing really exotic, simple and to the point.

Does this count? Stock Yamaha pick ups which are actually pretty darn good! Gave this one to my son last year for his 16th birthday... bought 15.5 years earlier for that very day! Hope you like it......

I'm in love with that guitar.

Is it a 1000?  2000?

Mark.

it does have another ziracote fretboard and headplate, as well as birdseye maple binding.... i couldnt resist a little touch of woody goodness next to all that black

neck join looks good too!

Yeah, but it's not overstated, I like black guitars to look clean, functional and stylish, detailing is fine as long as it doesn't detract from the overall appearance.

The neck join does look nice, good work that man.

1991 SG 3000S reissue, I think?  I remember having a copy of the Yamaha catalogue in the mid '80s with the original 3000 model (and I saw Dave Meniketti of  Y&T playing one around the same time).

I love those things, even though I'm not normally a fan of bling like gold hardware and abalone binding.  I wish they'd make a thin-body version I could actually lift.

I think that if I had the cash to splash on a custom jobbie, that's what I'd go for.

Thanks fellas! It's actually a very early SG3000s.... AND.... it's got seriel number 001. I've had people in the so called know, and they think this was the FIRST of the SG3000s's. If you look real careful at the back of the headstock, at certain angles you can see a different number underneath. I took it to the guitar show several years ago and Yamaha Kemble looked it over for ages and agreed that it may well be that it started life as an SG2000 at the factory and then before it was painted etc, it was turned into the first 3000s. It does not have a scratch plate or any holes, it's show condition. Awesome guitars, so much so I have the same model, same colour for myself... another 80's that has been used and I've swapped the pick ups out. I'll post a couple of pics of both over the weekend (just in case there are any doubters). Many thanks for the good comments fellas.

Indeed I did, the original/ mint one. I bought it when he was but 5 or 6 months old for his 16th.... my better half thought it was just BS so that I could have it.... my mates thought it was BS 'coz they know what I'm like too... but once a year it had new strings and I checked it all over. One of the proudest days of my life was at his surprise party... our band was playing and I asked his friends if they wanted to hear AJ play. So he got up... he was playing the intro to Sweet Child and I let him get to the end of the intro and stopped the track. As he turned around I handed him the gutar and asked him to do it all again with his new guitar! It was truely awesome.

You seem like a cool Dad! My Father's idea of music is sports commentaries.

The party must have had a great feel and all that.

 :D Magnificent!

Is there much difference between the two in weight or sound (pickups apart)?
