You know what it's like.

I blame that "GAS Thread" for getting me started.  Now I have to decide what I'm going to sell to pay for this thing...

Excuse terrible photos, I had to use flash.

Without meaning to be rude, those are terrible photographs Phil.

But I'm sure it's beautiful in person. I really love the look of the Mira's, and the slab-with-a-bit-of-carve body really appeals to me.

Lucky so and so- I bet it's fantastic!!! Congrats.

No offence taken, Sam.  Unfortunately the flash makes the nice dark rosewood fretboard look much lighter than it really is, and you can't see the lovely abalone moon inlays.  And the black finish casts reflections in such a way that it looks like it's covered in scratches.  C'est la vie...

It's actually much as you'd expect - a cross between an LP Junior and an SG, leaning more towards the SG thanks to the thin body.  A very, very resonant SG, that is.  PRS must have good stocks of timber, because this rings more than any of my Gibsons except my '65 Melody Maker.

Soundwise, it seems to really excel at clean and dirty sounds, but gets a little mushy with really filthy distortion.  I don't know if PRS have done something clever with the coil-split wiring, because I normally don't like split humbuckers but these sound great.

Yeah that often happens with black gloss finishes... ?

Oh well, as I say I bet it's stunning in reality. Did you get it brand new?

Looks good Phil :) I think it'd look pretty cool with some nickel covered pickups.

It happens to the best of us. That is a b-e-a-u-tiful Mira. Have fun with it Philly.

Yep, I took a day trip to Guitar Village in Farnham, they had four Miras in stock.

I really would've loved the Orange finish but didn't like the Wide Thin neck.  I almost went for a Powder Blue/white scratchplate one, but the black one was just as good and black seems more "practical" somehow - it could be Rock, it could be Blues, and it's easy to patch up if you damage the finish!

Thanks Tom, and I agree about the nickel covers.  The black pickups look a bit "lost" on the black body, and also the exposed bobbins feel a bit unprotected, I'd prefer covers.

Crazy that I'm already thinking about new pickups for a brand new PRS.

Nice Phil, very nice  ;)

There's something about the Mira I personally just can't love though.  I think they're too close to an SG for me?  I'd probably really like one if I could get past that though  :)

Edit:  I got past it quite quickly  ;)

Ohh! They have so many stunning PRSs in stock. You did well to come away with just the Mira!  :)

You're right about the black. I can't really explain why, but it's a 'safe' colour to go with...

My favourite is the Sea Foam Green though. Will have one of them some day!

You buy a guitar for the wood and the build, then you put BK's in it, that's just the way the world works.

For me, it's the fact that it is like an SG - but different enough to be worthwhile.  I like the control arrangement and there's always the option of replacing the 3-way switch with a 5-way.

I always felt like I "should" have one PRS for my collection (well, I did have an EG once but it's long gone).  But beautiful maple tops, bird inlays etc aren't my thing - I like looking at PRSs in shops, but I never saw one I actually felt tempted to buy.  There is the PRS Standard of course, but they're still quite pricey and you don't see many around.

I wasn't sure about the Mira at first, but every time I've seen one the design has grown on me.  And £1,100 is more than I'd usually spend, but for a PRS it seems a crazy bargain (well almost, in a way...   ).

  But that's the thing for me, they're all so stunning I could never pick one out.  The Mira stands out because it's simpler!

You're right - there's a sort of karmic inevitability about it!

That looks fantastic and welcome to the PRS club!

It does have its problems though.....if you're anything like me you'll get used to the gorgeous neck, perfect intonation, oh and the RESONANCE such that you won't play any of your other squeezes!

The Mira has had fantastic press, and I even like the look. (Even tho it's not a super strat)  Nice score!
