I think I know where he is, promoting gun sales in areas where school kids got SHOT probably won't sit too well with god, or whoever the hell it is that's in charge.

Pretty funny, but being a senile NRA nutter wasn't all he did in his life.

I'd rather remember him as a good actor who appeared in some great movies.

I'd rather remember Hitler for the lovely paintings he did.

+1

For a second I thought I'd stumbled into the BBC website to read the deranged vitriolic drivel that's been posted by others in this thread

Oh come off it you moron  - pinning every gun murder in the US on the president of the NRA is stretching it.  Comparing the NRA to Hitler is so absurd as to be borderline pathalogical...

the man was just of a different age is all, my grandparents have similar views to his and as much as you try and enlighten them they dont really show any signs of changing

It doesnt have to write of the good things he did do.. i mean - that cameo in waynes world 2... the mans a legend!

yeah, he came over badly in moores documentary.  But personally i saw an old confused man that may not quite have caught up with the modern world.. Figurehead of the NRA but certainly not making the important decisions

Actually, by all accounts, he wasn't that bad an artist...  The problem with his  pictures being that he signed them. :)
If I had a time machine I'd swap him for Tracy Emin anyday... :)

not to mention, banning guns because some people use them to commit crimes is a bit like banning cars because some people joyride (don't get me wrong, i have no problem with "control", but if you have no psychological/criminal record, you should be able to get one after a thorough check of your records).

It's an extreme example, but one I think holds water. I don't think you can overlook something which I at least find morally abhorrent just because he did some stuff that was good too.

Being, in my opinion, a right wing imbecile who's lobbying quite specifically did not help prevent hundreds of deaths because he was more concerned about getting to shoot tin cans off walls than human life overrides, I'm afraid, being in some good pictures.

He can't be held responsible for a continent full of trigger happy lunatics!
What the Micheal Moore film also pointed out was in Canada there are just as many guns in circulation per head as the USA but where's the sky high statistics for gun murder!
Anyway he was good in Ben Herr and Towering Inferno, I mean he even saved that womans cat!

Actually, it probably prevented a damn sight more deaths.  Places that have concealed carry & castle doctrine have drastically lower rates of violent crime than those that don't.  What has Chicago's handgun ban given them?  One of the highest murder rates in the US.

If you're trying to pin the Colombine deaths on Heston, then I'd suggest that had his lobbying been more successful (i.e. to the extent that the teachers were allowed to carry), then there would have been fewer deaths in that tragic incident.

Bottom line: criminals don't care about laws banning firearms, but they do care about a potential victim shooting back.
