I was chattin to a mate the other day and he told me a story about Bono. Not sure if it's true or not though. Basically the story goes that at a suitably quiet moment of a concert Bono started clapping his hands slowly. As he is clapping he says "every time I clap my hands........................an African child dies". Before he could add anything to this statement someone in the audience shouts "stop f***ing clapping then".

Has anyone else heard this story (or were at the concert it happened at)?
I think I hate being indecisive.

I've heard that before as a joke, so I guess it's not true, but it's still funny. :)

Bono did do this.

A lot of other artists have done it too

to raise awareness of the state of africa.

Absolutely brilliant.

While the rest of us are on a living wage being asked to hand it out to Africa, Bono is still flying private jets...

Makes me sick that he guilt trips the world - Untill he reduces his wages to that of a normal citizen, I don't think he should even be allowed to speak about poverty.

I know the story. At some point it was so well known that they actually asked Bono if this story was true.

It is just a joke. It was based on the TV add where all these celebs snapped their fingers.

It's very funny and it sounds like it could have happened.

Agreed, Noodle.
That's why I have a severe dislike for the bugger and probably why I regard him as someone who follows other celebrities around such as Bob Geldof, who I believe actually gives a shite about African poverty and not his profile, and Al Gore, who I think is just a fear-monger who is bitter about losing the presidential elections to a worse candidate.
I also can't forgive Gore for his involvement in the PMRC movement whereas he could have just done something sensible to quieten his wife down, who is a terror to artistic freedom, not to mention freedom of expression in the US (and ultimately globally).
Anyway; Bono deserved it.
I too use chicken as a measurement.

+1 from me on that. Did Tipper Gore (who incidentally has possibly the worst female name in existence) really think recording artists would roll over and let her dictate what they could and couldn't record. Frank Zappas statement about PMRC is another reason I respect the man and his music so much:

"The PMRC proposal is an ill-conceived piece of nonsense which fails to deliver any real benefits to children, infringes the civil liberties of people who are not children, and promises to keep the courts busy for years dealing with the interpretational and enforcemental problems inherent in the proposal's design. It is my understanding that, in law, First Amendment issues are decided with a preference for the least restrictive alternative. In this context, the PMRC's demands are the equivalent of treating dandruff by decapitation. (...) The establishment of a rating system, voluntary or otherwise, opens the door to an endless parade of moral quality control programs based on things certain Christians do not like. What if the next bunch of Washington wives demands a large yellow "J" on all material written or performed by Jews, in order to save helpless children from exposure to concealed Zionist doctrine?"
I think I hate being indecisive.

Al Gore does anything for attention and spreading fear. Before he started with his climate stuff he was after rock and metal artists. He claimed the lyrics corrupted the youth and caused everything that was wrong with the world.

I don't take the man 'serial' and let him chase hid ManBearPig by himself.

Err I can't browse to the Rockall Times due to access restrictions in work (Adult Content as it says)

However this url should take you to the world of Bono http://www.therockalltimes.co.uk/2002/07/22/bono-rockall.html

I will update it when I get home (to a slightly less restrictive regime)
