As compensation for Dorian Gray, I watched Nora inu (Stray Dog) another Kurosawa film I hadn't see  and it was excellent. The story of a young policeman who's gun is stolen on a crowded bus by a pickpocket. He then goes undercover to retrieve the gun before it's used in a crime.

You don't need to be embarrassed about not seeing Kurosawa films, man.  I bet most of us haven't seen any of 'em.

Over the weekend I have watched:

G-Force. It was my daughters choice (honest). Not as bad as I was fearing it would be.
New Moon (the second twilight thingy). Jane's choice, very slow and boring (the film, not Jane).
Body of Lies. My choice, boring.

And tonight I am watching 9. I am also expecting this to be sh!t.

Great weekend for films!
I think I hate being indecisive.

Saw Kick-Ass this afternoon and liked it.  I think that the film was as good as it could be and all the main performances were very good.  It's a very slick film with some great lines in it.  How it managed to get rated a 15 though is beyond me :?.
To be fair, the only really extreme violence is in the two Hitgirl set pieces, and the editing on those is fairly rapid, so they're not that shocking. Compare it to another 15 actioner such as 300 and it's really not bad. The swearing seems shocking, but that's actually as a consequence of there not being that much swearing in the film as a whole.

I was disappointed with body of lies, it was a well shot film with solid performances, but effectively there was no story. What was the point of it?

i am not sure how a film that involved limbs flying through the air, lots of bloody violence, people being slowly burnt to death and an 11 year old saying C U Next Tuesday as well as many more censor provoking swear words managed to get a 15.     But who cares, its not like i am 15 anymore
... when something like batman was given a 15 rating (actually i was only 10 back then)

kickass is a great film :)

As noted in my earlier response - I watched 9 last night. I was very pleasantly surprised. The animation is beautifully done, the story is pretty decent and the characters are all pretty interesting. The only gripe I have is that it was a little short. I'll be watching again at some point as there was quite a bit going on in some scenes.

Saw "Perrier's Bounty" tonight. Well worth a watch, as low key gangster comedy goes. I can only hope it doesn't lead to a run of "Oirish" gangster flicks in it's wake, as "Lock Stock" did for the c--kernee equivalent.

Went to see Kick-Ass last night. Was much more enjoyable than I was expecting and a lot more violent. Recommended.

I really enjoyed 9, and although short I thought it was perfectly paced.

I bought Downfall on DVD, so a nice cheery film to match my cheery disposition this week.

I thought it took a while to get settled - it was less of an out-and-out comedy than I expected, and (yes!) a lot more violent.  But by the end I loved it, and I think I'll like it even better when I see it again.

I was expecting a comedy as well. I nearly choked on my pic 'n' mix when Hit Girl made her first appearance.

Bit late but I just watched Up last night, the start was so sad! And then the reminders throughout were just depressing but a good film nonetheless.

Yeah - I agree with that. Pretty depressing for an animated film. The music played a part in the sadness!

I'm going to be watching Pineapple Express tonight - hope it's good!
