Recent films would be Sherlock and Predators
I was really surprised by the first - I saw a trailer and thought 'since when was sherlock holmes a martial arts expert action hero?' and expected it to be terrible, but Downey pulled of the ultra-intelligent but detached from reality and basically nuts character really well, and I enjoyed it a lot.
Predators was fine, even good, taken on its own merit, in isolation, but it was let down by the fact that at least 50% of the scenes and shots are pretty much right out of Predator, and it had so much opportunity to do what predator did with the buildup and the 'what the $% is going on, we're all gonna die' factor, but the predators really had no presence when they werent on the screen (as in predator, alien, aliens, even predator 2, theres a sense of continual manace from the monsters right through the film) and the characters took being dumped on an alien world and hunted by near-invoncible aliens much, much too easily.
