Finally getting round to watching The Pacific. Just watched the second episode. Not sure if it's as good as the hype. After this I shall be watching Band of Brothers.

Band of Brothers is fantastic. Also watch Generation Kill for a more up to date take on things. Also bloody brilliant.
When you´re racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just pies.

Second episode of Game of Thrones was again excellent. I still feel that perhaps the sex and swearing feels a little crowbarred in - though some of the sex scenes are there to tell the story of Daenerys and Drogo's changing relationship.

Still, small criticism. Right good it is.

yeah, that's my big problem. Like several other HBO shows I watch/have watched, it's a bit obvious. It's like someone higher up has told them they have a quota per episode, and it must be used.

I'm still watching it, though.

Spartacus - Gods Of The Arena. Great so far! "Words fall from your mouth like shite from ass"

2nd episode of Game of Thrones was good despite some really wooden acting in places.

I could decide whether Spartacus: Blood and Sand and Spartacus: Gods of the Arena were daft fun or just appalling. I'd literally switch mindsets every two seconds. I guess it's just a tabloid version of Rome at the end of the day. It is what it is.

Transpires, whilst we've been talking about the forced "adultness" in Game of Thrones, it's MASSIVELY toned down from the books

If I was going to make a Biblical/apocolyptic/zombie/kung-fu movie, this WOULDN'T be it...

Don't, whatever you do, watch Gabriel - treads much of the same ground but it's even worse.

(...and coincidentally, it stars the bloke from Spartacus: Blood and Sand, mentioned just above)

Not a real film but saw this and thought it would make an interesting film... really nicely edited as well!

A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints - Indie coming-of-age drama about a boy growing up in an Italian-American family. It's a bit 'seen it all before' but it's a good film with an excellent cast... even Shia LaBeouf is good!

Assembly - Based on true events during the Chinese Civil War in 1948, this is a powerful, bloody and extremely well made film.  But having been made in mainland China, it doesn't ruffle any feathers politically and I found it takes an awfully long time to tell a relatively simple story.  Still, pretty good stuff.

Paprika - incredible anime film, definitely worth a watch! Apparently Inception was inspired by parts of it.

4321 - seemed like it was trying to be a British, modern version of Pulp Fiction but it didn't really work for me, I just found it boring and a bit silly.

True Legend - The story of a martial arts master called Su Can who gets betrayed by his evil foster brother, loses his wife, becomes a homeless alkie and ends up inventing Drunken Fist kung fu.  It's directed by Yuen Woo Ping so the action scenes are good but there's too much CGI and the tone keeps changing wildly (the last half hour (featuring a cameo from David Carradine) feels like a completely different film).  A complete shambles really, but for some reason I quite liked it.

Watched THOR yesterday - it was bloody good!

nice to have superhero films that are not trying to be more 'real' than there comic counterparts - so i suppose some will have to leave there disbelief at home and just enjoy a proper good superhero romp

makes me hopeful for the avengers film thats coming - although i am still not sure how captain America will translate to a modern worldwide audience ???
