is Rec the one that's just been re-made & called Quarantine?

I believe that's exactly the same film, just re-titled for some reason. I watched REC back to back with The Signal the other night and I have to say, though I enjoyed REC, The Signal trounced it. One of the freshest horror films I've seen in a long time. Basically the film is a single story that spans 3 chapters each from a different characters perspectives done by very different directors (not Run Lola Run stylie, the story continues in each segment, not resets). It could have been a horrible mess and it just isn't. It works surprisingly well, especially as you'd expect some of the tonal shifts to be jarring. I really rate it, shame it seems to have had almost no publicity or marketing. Picked it up on Blu-Ray for next to nothing.

Admittedly I'm not holding out as much hope for Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter. That should hopefully arrive before the weekend. I'll suspect beer will be required to set the mood accordingly for that one.

Ah.  Oh dear.  I tend to avoid most American remakes at all costs... A bullet dodged there I feel!

My friend tells me Taken is really good, but apparently he hasnt even heard of Pulp Fiction, Indiana Jones, The Shining or Human Traffic, so I dont think his opinion is worth anything

Which Taken are we talking about here, the Spielberg miniseries or the one with Liam Neeson?

How can you possibly not know those?

I mean, I'm no film buff by a LONG shot. I'm not even very enthusiastic about them, but surely everyone knows those?

Anyway. Matters not

Saw The Kingdom the other day. Suprisingly good, seeing as I bought it to laugh at, expecting it to be jingoistic americans-kick-the-shite-out-of-terrorists cr@p. Its not. Its quite well thought out. Its muslim characterisations are a little cartoonish, but better than I expected, and it tries to create a crowbar divide between your average middle eastern muslim dude and the types of people that like to blow things up.

I also saw superbad. The cops were funny, the rest was boring.

Quarantine:
hmm. Well its better than Cloverfield and Blairwitch. Shot from a journalist point of view, so there is a reason for the camera to always be on. I think its actually a very good perspective and is good as a first person film.
Sadly there was a void of boringness at 60-80 mins. The end was very untraditional to say the least, my mate wouldn't shut up about it, but I was happy to point out it will remain in your mind because of that, DUH!
Don't pay to watch it. If you liked Cloverfield etc, give it a go

Watched Waltz with Bashir the other day, superb film, but very depressing. Definitely did not improve my opinion of the Israeli military...
