Scary Movie is ok, it has its moments and is better than every other spoof american film that followed it :) Which isnt exactly hard, I suppose.

Have joined the new film club at uni, they're showing Memento this week which looks pretty good..

memento is a great movie!

anyway i've become a great fan of simon pegg... he's completely unknown in italy (but we're the worst country in the world, so everything's possible), but in general i watch movies in original language so i couldn't care less of adaptations...
shaun of the dead is one of my favourite movies!
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

Saw the new Clint Eastwood film Gran Tourino. Its a sad film and surprisingly really good. He comes over as a heartless bigot at first...anyway I won't spoil.

Warpig, MQ,
Miracle Man-Trilogy Suite, Cold Sweats, Black Guards, Rebel Yells & Irish Tours!

i love eastwood. i don't think he's made a single bad movie as a director, and for sure he's done plenty of great films.

well i have just been watching the watchmen.  i enjoyed it very much but obviously my expectations were high and i dont think it was perfect (it was never going to be though)

I would really like the opinion of someone who hasnt read the comics as i do think  a big flaw in it was that it tried to give too much to the fans - sometimes at the expense of an easier narrative... i really enjoyed picking out all the frames and references lifted direct from the comic but that doesnt really make it a good film

i think the change in story at the end made a lot of sense so dont mind it at all- the flowery bullshitee and smallville style explanations that went with it did not!!

overall i think its the best adaptation we ever could have hoped for, it is a damn good film and i dont know how it could have been made better... adding the stuff they missed out would not have improved it.. taking out the very minor stuff they added might just flowed a little better for me but may have left it a bit too dry for cinema

Well, here we go then!
I am not a sci fi / superhero enthusiast. I can deal with things which are simple, like Spiderman: one good guy, bad people against him, quite black and white really. I think thats how a superhero film works.
That leads to me on about how this film doesn't. It is really too long and stretched out, but oddly I found it was the beginning that put me to sleep (yes, literally!). Including the trailers you are sitting there for 3hrs, which I found to be exhausting for such a simple moral.
I don't really pick up on acting in general, but I thought this was average, nothing struck me as exciting or any of the cast were hitting above their standard.
Without giving the plot away (I hope), there is an old superhero team, and a couple of them are investigating why one of them died, follows a few personal tales and you are struck with the simple moral: Wherever you go... somebody just has to go and be a dick.
My mate that wanted to see it felt it was a very deep ending, but IMO it was basic and shallow. If everybody has the right to a free and informed opinion, there will be clashes. Although may I point out that the story also adds in that you have to lie to people if you want them to all get along.

All of the above should be considered as thoughts of someone who is not into this kind of film, and ofcourse its all my opinion, no offense intended.

On a brighter note, the very beginning was interesting to see historical clips, as I do enjoy that time's history.

Being generous as its not my kind of film, 7 / 10 or maybe even 7.5

I'm looking forward to going to see it, probably with the wife over the next couple of weeks.

I know nothing of the Watchman, but I used to be a bit of a comic buff, and I remember Alan Moore writing Captain Britain many years ago - loved his work back then, always seemed a little darker than the run of the mill DC and Marvel stuff.

Will report back.

Mark.

My mate that wanted to see it felt it was a very deep ending, but IMO it was basic and shallow.

i think the 'deep' ending from the comic was slightly cheapened by the extra script the felt they had to add  - dr manhattan is a being of very few words and simply doesnt need to explain to these characters why he acts the way he does at the end.  I like the fact is comes across as a sudden change of heart in the comic and there is much les attmept to justify it

i agree that the titel sequence was very well done - the music was so well placed.  The thing i always struggle with when thinking about watchmen is that people may compare it to the incredibles for grownups.. that whole forced retirement super hero thing that pixar stole... its very evident in the title sequence but in a good way

Saw Lesbian Vampire Killers today - a bit better than I expected.  Completely fails as a horror film, and not very saucy either, but it is pretty amusing.  Lots of lovely ladies too.

RE: Watchmen

Right.

I'm in an easier position because I've read it many times and know the story, cause there's so much that's skipped over, barely touched upon or just not explained (why is Veidt wandering round with a big cat with antennae? Who's Moloch? Why doesn't Dr Manhatten know what is happening?) that I imagine it could be a bit ovewhelming. There's millions of stuff to fit in less than three hours that tons of stuff was alwasy gonna be missing.

Other than that, the only things to annoy me were the clunkiest sex scene ever filmed outwith Cum On My Tattoo 4 and the fact that Juspeczyk is about 20 years younger than she should be and I struggle to believe Veidt is in his 40's either, also, why does Dan go to speak to Veidt? Why isn't it Rorscach as in the comic? What reason is that change for? Daft.

So, really enjoyed it, but I already knew the story back to front, I think it'd be a struggle if you didn't.

I saw it yesterday. I've only read about the first 5th of the comic (my mum tidied away from bookmark, yes, seriously!), but i really enjoyed it. If i had to nitpick, i would about the choice of music, not that i didn't like the songs in question, but i often find that i don't really like excessive uses of popular music in movies, as opposed to an original score. Just my opinion though.
