Went to see Public Enemies last night. I love me some Michael Mann, but it feels like it could have been shortened a great deal & not lost anything. BTW, does anyone else think that Christian Bale is the new Sean Connery i.e. plays the same part in every movie. I love the guy, but he's exactly the same as The Dark Knight etc.

I liked the lengthy silent moments, but i probably still would have enjoyed it if some stuff was cut and i hadnt arleady seen it.

There are a few like that, allways play the same part.

There are some actors that are very versitile like Tom Hanks and Will Smith.

Jim Carrey's part in The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is reasonably different from the roles he normally does. I agree that most of his films involve the same character with a silly gurning smile. I don't hold it against him though, if you can make millions by doing the same thing over and over again why not do it!

Watched "Lost in Translation" tonight. I didn't like it first time but have seen it a couple of times since. It's growing on me, there's quite a lot of hidden depth to it. Quite a poignant and sad film really.

Watched "Lost in Translation" tonight. I didn't like it first time but have seen it a couple of times since. It's growing on me, there's quite a lot of hidden depth to it. Quite a poignant and sad film really.

Oh, I hate that film!  Can't sympathise with the main characters at all, they're such a pair of self-centred tossers

went to bruno last night, wouldnt have paid for it. one joke - hes gay, big deal
some funny parts in it, but mostly just the same thing with sacha baron cohen everytime, but in a different accent and different clothes

the only good thing that will come from this movie is if all the homophobe jocks start imitating bruno as everyone seemed to do with borat. that could be amusing.

Perhaps they are, maybe they are for a reason - maybe I'm looking too far into it! I still enjoyed it though.

I did however find it a little bit unbelievable that Bill Murray's character wouldn't have tried to 'get jiggy' with Scarlett Johansson in the scene when they were in bed together. Perhaps this reflects more on my character than the characters in the story!

I think it's meant to be a slightly more "spiritual" attraction than that!  :lol:

I just don't like the way the film portrays everyone other than Murray and Johansson's characters (especially their respective spouses) as one-dimensional stereotypes.  There's not so much as a hint that they may have contributed to the problems in their relationships.  It's too much from their perspective - I felt that the director was telling me how I should feel, not letting me make up my own mind.

And we're supposed to think it's somehow ridiculous and unreasonable of Japanese people to speak Japanese.  In Japan.  :roll:

I know what you mean about the other stuff - the one dimensional 'film star' in the film was very nauseating and a little too over cooked. The main characters may well indeed have contributed to the problems in their relationships - I would be surprised if they didn't.

Im from NZ, i enjoy the odd gay joke, but an hour and a half of the one joke is a bit much. there was some pretty funny bits in it, but overall i didnt think it was great.

I watched it recently from a recommendation, can't say i enjoyed it much, didn't quite see what was so great.

Not to say i didn't enjoy Scarlett in those see through pink panties though!

Hmmm, not familiar with NZ's humour so I can't comment. Sacha's kind of humour doesn't seem to travel to well anyway.
