Tron legacy. I quite enjoyed it and it was nice not to see Hollywoodland shitee all over it. However it did leave me feeling somewhat cold, they could have done so much more with it.

Heckler - Documentary examining not only heckles but also critics. Makes a good point about how critical reviews are often hugely exaggeration... like my recent comment about The Twilight Saga: New Moon being poison. That's me told  :?

Freakonomics - I loved the book but it doesn't work in film. By giving each topic in the just a few minutes each, you never get into any depth. The section on Sumo was good but overall, get the book, avoid the film.

The Girl Who Played with Fire - Not a patch on the first film. The main characters spent very little time on screen together which seems odd as it was such a big part of the first film. It's quite an ordinary film and in places feels like an old TV movie. The 'bad guys' are all predictable stereotypes, like something from a Bond movie from the '70s.

Critical reviews are no fun at all without a bit of exaggeration.

I just watched:

The Disappearance Of Alice Creed  Kidnap thriller with a very small budget and an even smaller cast (just three people).  This got a lot of very favourable reviews; it's well made and looks great, but despite the many twists and turns I found the plot fairly predictable and the film never quite feels "real" somehow.  Still, first-time writer/director J. Blakeson shows promise!

A Serbian Film
The BBFC-cut version.  Hard to know what to say really.  It's pretty harrowing to watch, but I don't think it leaves much emotional impact or much to think about afterwards.  The director is adamant he was out to make a serious political/social point, not just to shock, but.... I'm not convinced.  I won't be seeking out the uncensored version.

The Lovely Bones - Awkward mix of serial killer suspense and sentimental family drama with poor results. The acting is pretty good but the material isn't. Very unsatisfying 'happy' ending, avoid.

I haven't seen it, even though I was a big fan of Peter Jackson's earlier work.  Everything about it looks wrong, from the casting (Stanley Tucci might as well have a sign round his neck saying "Serial Killer Perv") to the hideously excessive CGI.  I just can't generate the will to watch it.

I read that Lynne Ramsay was lined up to direct a version of it at one point - I'm sure her style would've been infinitely more appropriate.

The book of The Lovely Bones was really good but I've heard the film is really terrible. I'm probably gonna give it a miss!

Bronson.

Excellent, thoroughly enjoyed it. After that I put on:

The Last Airbender.

During which I fell asleep.

I agree that the movie was a complete disappointment, considering that the show is actually good, to be geared more for children. They choose the wrong director for this and I was expecting them to do a lot more with the material.
All I want to be is normally insane.

i think i would have loved that film as a kid - i would have been able to ignore the shockingly bad stage direction style of the dialogue and just focused on the visuals and general story.

the dialogue really is terrible

That movie was bad. I thought I was the only adult who watched Nick's Avatar cartoon of his own free will. I'm 27 so.... yeah. I'm gonna have to blame the horrible fiction writing of adult programs I'm supposed to watch like 24, CSI, election results and the evening news. So there, it's not my fault that children's television is what's left. I paid money for that thing and it's gonna be watched.

That could have been interesting, Ratcatcher is a classic.

Yes, I only saw Ratcatcher for the first time quite recently, I wasn't sure it would be my kind of thing but I thought it was great.

I decided to watch the entire Star Wars saga (not in one sitting). Episodes I-III are really cr@p imo. Long, boring and the acting is even worse than the original trilogy! The child actors are particularly terrible.

2 episodes into Boardwalk Empire now. Really enjoying it :)
