Dunno why there was so much fuss about JayZ playing.  Especially from Noel Gallager, I went when Oasis and Macca were playing and both of them were very dissapointing to say the least...... especially Oasis.

It's not like there wouldn't have been someone else to go and see when JayZ was playing, I think Massive Attack were on at the same time.  There were plenty of other people there who I'd much rather miss than JayZ, such as Mark "oi, you on the trumpet, play his guitar part and lets release a single" Ronson.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Jay-Z is great, i wouldn't say you have to study hip hop and know about the history and such, but they certainly helps you understand it a lot better.

I just think people should open mind their mind to all genres and not let themselves get stuck to one type of music. I used to be all metalz and that cr@p but i realized that there wasn't any point to limiting myself to one genre and that i had missed out on a lot of great music. It also helps when nothing much is happening in the particular genre you are listening to because you can just go check out what's new in the other genres.

but rap etc is stylistically closer to the origins of blues than blues is today.

take chain gang singing for example, loads of blokes rhythmically singing to a beat. pretty much rap eh?

go listen to some public enemy!!!

I've heard them back in the 80/90's and I didn't like it then and still don't.

I agree, though I certainly wasn't that open-minded at your age!

However... you can give things a chance, but you can't force yourself to like something.  I try to eat broccoli because it's good for me, but I'm never going to enjoy it.

Probably true, but that's not necessarily a reason to listen to it, is it?

I haven't tried to get into rap, but I've heard enough of it (I've spent 20 years travelling on South London buses, for starters   ).  It just doesn't move me, and it never will.

I don't think in chain gangs they sung about killing their bitches and hoes with their huge mudda fukkin gun and then banging everyone because they have got the biggest rim of them all.

I see you've done a fair bit of research into the genre then

I admit that I have no evidence, but if they did, that would be so funny :P
traditional hip hop, R n B and Rap isn't so bad, but this big gangsta crime thing which dominates it does not settle with me
