England sounds like a dodgy place! Says the Glaswegian... I've had no issues walking about the city centre at the weekend, usually with a guitar and amp with me. Lived very close to the city centre, and sandwiched between the Gorbals and Govanhill for a year and a half now, and not a spot of bother. Oh and I teach, not a bit of bother and I'm very against bringing back the cain/belt. That's not the answer.

Though saying that I don't really feel safe when walking about the suburbs of Birmingham when visiting my girlfriend's relatives. Bloody english louts...

there are many things not right about the world we live in. i firmly believe it all comes from greed. call me naive, but maybe one day we can live in unity.

the way I see it, these losers who have a go have a false sense of self esteem and have no self worth and so find identity and meaning by putting others down, lowering your value to increase there own (if I'm wording this a bit weird it's because I read a lot of rubbish)

now if only they'd stop fecking breeding!!! as it's messing up the scum to decent people ratio because of amount of kids they have

It's sad, but I think there is some truth in what you say JDC

Yes the scum to decent people ratio does seem to be shifting. I have one living over the road and the offspring are entering scumhood well and truly-where there was one, there are now 4.

Glad to hear you are OK after that.

Having been on the wrong end of the worlds shite kickers, I can say that you "probably" did the right thing when you told him to "slice you" (or something similar) as it

1: confuses them
2: gives them the impression that you are much more capable than they thought.

There has been research done on this over the years and they usually decide to find an easier victim rather than pushing it.

I won't go into the random attacks I have suffered (it's definately safer in Belfast than London) or the attacks and attempted muggings both my kids have received in so called 'safe' areas

One thing I will say is that sometimes the police are as much use as balls to a monk, as my daughter got verbally abused and manhandled by a police officer on Friday night.

Yet the same officer 5 minutes earler was happily passing the time of day with a 16 year old who was swigging buckfast and swearing at passing shoppers.

Sometimes it's too much bother to do anything with the trouble makers but not too much trouble to hassle the normal people.

Our town centre (and shopping mall) has attempted to ban anybody in 'skater' style clothing (or with long hair), yet the chavs who seem to do all the shop lifting and leave the smell of cheap dope hanging in the air are not taken to task.

Grrr end of rant.
Goodbye London !

steady on now, no-one's talking about killing!

(a) agreed wholeheartedly. that's also why i'm against these retarded targets that brown and co. like to bring in. bring in targets that they have to catch a certain amount of criminals, and they just go after the easy targets rather than the difficult ones. not to mention, it's not like you can predict exactly how many crimes are going to be committed.

(b) wow, i hadn't heard that, that's ridiculous. I have long-ish hair, what are they going to do, ban me? are they going to ban it on girls too?

 :? :x

any time i've seen skaters there, they haven't been doing any harm from what i've seen. i certainly haven't felt intimidated, as you certainly sometimes do with people who aren't dressed as skaters.

EDIT: the other thing i don't like is that often rules which are brought in to deal with a certain special circumstance are then in widespread use before long, once the public has got used to it and learns to tolerate it. for example, the "no liquid in bottles" rule (because of terrorism) is now frequently used by businesses like cinemas and clubs, as they want you to buy their drinks. that definitely helps us fight terrorism...  :x

Glad to hear you're ok Gwem. sounds like there were a bunch of pricks, but you were'nt to know that at the time.

I always thought that this sort of thing became more widespread when corperal punishment was abolished. It was the year after I left school in 1983, even at that age I thought it was a bad idea. Anything else thats been tried obviously isn't working.
