Alright guys, it's about new pickup time.
To start, I'm looking for a P90 with characteristics of a vintage PAF humbucker.
I've always loved the touchy dynamics that you get with single coils, but sometimes I really miss that midrange crunch of a vintage humbucker.
I don't like hot pickups, and that's the problem that you run into with a lot of P90's, they're just too loud.
So far, I like the BKP-90's best, but the description leads me to believe that the midrange will be too smooth for my tastes. I want something a little bit rude and chunky but still enough smoothness for a nice solo tone.
I guess a good basis would be very early Santana tone, and also some of Wilco's stuff.
I've read where some people have been recommended an Alnico IV P90?
Is perhaps that recommendation on the right track for me as well?
Thanks.
