American Football in London!!
« on: October 26, 2008, 04:44:06 PM »
Do you guys care?

I am quite excited, it is always fun to see how Europeans react to our sports. I have been watching some pregame analysis today and it seems that the general consensus on our side is, "Why are we doing this?" Asking a team to travel across the pond in the middle of the season is a little ridiculous.

Anyway, just curious how you guys feel about it. :D

Sorry, prefer rugby, for that sort of thing.  Then football, cricket, even darts.

Do you guys care?

I don't want to go into a big rant about it, but no!

I don't "get" American sports, they all seem to have that thing of constantly stopping the clock whenever anything happens - so there are "10 seconds" left, but it takes hours.  :?

And there seems to be an obsession with scoring hundreds and hundreds of points - which is maybe why Americans seem to have trouble understanding that a 1-0 or even 0-0 football game can still be really exciting.

+1 My main problem with American Football (apart from the fact that the game seems to be pretty much based on advertising) is that after every tackle, they stop and have a chat for about 10 minutes!

 I am in the not caring camp, sorry.
Why do American sports always have more safety gear?
We don't dress up like that for a game of rounders. (relating to baseball, not US football)

Whilst the International Rules test is ongoing, I fear I can't motivate myself to care. G'wan Ireland!

Yeah, there's something very odd about seeing grown men playing a ball game dressed in their jim-jams.

I understand your sentiments,
I am not offended by your criticisms,
And, like most Americans, would just assume that we keep our American sports in America!

Uh, the goal of the game is to have the MOST points!

Seriously, on the other side, I sure as hell can't drive myself to watch a soccer game. We can all just agree to disagree on this one!
And on the same side, many baseball games finish with scores similar to soccer games, so we DO understand the principle.

Thanks guys. :D

Who wears safety gear other than in American Football?

And, honestly, not sure what rounders is- forgive my ignorance. :D

It's what we had to play in school when we were deemed "not good enough" for cricket

I think it's related to "softball" - is that it? A sort of Baseball-lite :D

Hey, you're not the bloke responsible for us losing our beloved Marathon bars, to have them replaced with something called a "Snickers", are you?
