The Sterling is crippling against the Dollar, I wouldn't go for it just yet.
However I'm surprised you haven't seen an uber cheap EC-1000 Dave :o
You need a holiday over to London. Or.. Glasgow.. or.. anywhere out of Northern Ireland.. Yeah, just move actually :P
yeah, pretty much. i generally just buy off the internet. it's bad enough paying inflated prices when it's something you want... when they're asking inflated prices for stuff you don't want (bar the belfast guitar emporium, which has a pretty nice stock), it's just like o_O
And imo, an EC1000 for £700 is an absolute bargain. Good woods, great playing, proper pickups (whether you like them or not), Sperzels, and generally very good fretwork in my experience.
I'd go for it.
i dunno, man, the one i tried had a 3 piece back and neck. not saying it's not good wood, but i'd expect fewer pieces (for the body at least- i'm aware that extra pieces in the neck can be for stability as well as just cheaping out  ) for £700... i know my edwards was a lot less than that and has 1-piece construction for each. that's not really an option now, though, with the pound's current value against the yen... :(
