Celestion Golds - anyone tried them?

In the quest for The Ultimate Tone (TM), I'm considering getting a pair of Celestion Golds for my 2x12.  Has anyone tried them?  What is the consensus on how they sound with Marshall-style amps?

I replaced a G12H30 (I am not a fan of this particular speaker) with one in my Bogner 1x12 cab and now that it has broken in it has made a world of difference. The best way of describing it's effect in tone, especially clean, is that it adds an almost three dimensional quality to single line notes of chords and is extremely responsive to picking dynamics.

With drive, it allows the character of the amp to shine through and retains clarity, even under extreme gain. It's become my favourite speaker and I am considering replacing the Vintage 30's in my Bogner 2x12 cab with them.

I use a Bogner Duende or Ecstasy 101B with the cabs and whilst it works equally well with either amp, the observations above were noted with the Ecstasy.

I have a gold and a G12H in my 65 amps 2x12. Sounds really good but that's how it is stock so I can't really comment on what either of them are like individually.

There is a series of youtube videos from a Peter Stroud demo. He talks about the speakers they use in one of them but I can't remember which one. Quite interesting to watch all seven though.

What is it you dont like about it? I cant tell if its the speaker breakup, or my amp (Laney GH50L) thats fizzy, contemplating getting some different speakers to try if you reckon the G12H30s are what may be causing my fizz/harshness issues.

If it's a G12H Anniversary, it's the speaker.  If it's the Heritage, more likely the amp.

I have 2 of the g12H anniversary speakers in my 4x12 and I dont find them fizzy or harsh with my jcm800, however with my jcm2000 the tone can be quite fizzy if the amp isnt totally cranked. So I'd say it could be the amp rather than the speakers, although I've never tried the heritage g12h's so cant comment on whether that would get rid of the fizz or not.

Yep, you've got the Anniversarys.  They are reasonably harsh speakers, tight and bright.  The Heritages are more rounded in my experience.  In a 2x12 I think they sound quite bright, and a 4x12 softens them a bit (as TomW implies).

I'd tempted to try a speaker swap _Tom_, but bear in mind Celestion have just put their prices up  :(
