AndyR - thanks for your tip.. but too bad, I just ordered the graphtechs for the highway one neck ;) anyway i'm sure the roller string tree will work well, and i won't have to buy vaseline. you are right though, those graphtech trees look damn ugly.

I've got Tusq ones rather than the black Graphtechs - the colour blends in with the maple so they don't look so bad.

When you take off the Highway One trees, you'll see each one has a screw hole and a second hole for a little pin which keeps the tree in a straight line.  Annoyingly the Graphtech tree doesn't quite cover the second hole.

! bugger that then, the graphtechs are going on the 70s reissue, and i'll try to cover the top with part of the old string tree if possible.

Here are the Tusq string trees on my Strat, you can see the extra holes which are only partially hidden, but they're not really very noticeable.

I plugged them with little bits of c--ktail sticks, but unfortunately the colour darkened when I varnished over the top of the plugs  .

  I just put the guitar together on Saturday, and was trying to set up the trem.  It's a Wilkinson VSVG, which I'm sure is great but it's a total pain to set up as the saddles move all over the place.  And Sperzels are excellent, but they don't like being repeatedly tuned and detuned to slack, so two strings broke.

I got pissed off and gave up in the end.  It can wait for another day.

i didn't think roller nuts were for vintage radius fret boards?

Lilly pollen stains can sometimes disappear when left in bright sunlight.

Shame the same can't be said of Lily Allen (kidding)

You've got me there gwEm, I wouldn't know. I know Jeff Beck uses them on his strats as he is always using the trem.

I'm pretty sure the LSR one isn't for vintage radius, but there maybe other nuts for vintage radius boards.

BKP trem holding up really well so far, still waiting for them to send me springs (they forgot to include them before), using AllParts springs for now stolen out another guitar.

Those graphtech string trees definitely do what they say, its really helped the whole trem go back into tune, too bad they look so modern. Theres still some binding on the D and G strings, and I think its due to the nut. Might try a bit of pencil lead. Anyway, I don't really use the trem that much, but it is a nice thing to have working of course :) I think its binding as due to the fact its cut for 9/10s and I put 11s on without really looking at it.

I wired it so the lower tone control works on the bridge and middle pickup. Adding the tone control to the bridge darkened it up a little, and it works better with the other pickups. Good mod there. I bet master tone, master volume, blender would probably be the best control set based on what I've done to mine, but I'm after the old strat vibe for now... and I still really like the tone of this guitar, and I also like the way it encourages me to play.

Half thinking about another neck, and forgetting the 70s reissue theme (well, except for the CBS headstock). 22 big frets, roller nut, locking tuners, modern radius, the whole bit... I'll see how the Jazzmaster is when I get it together. Only the fact the neck is finished in poly is making me thing about replacing it. Its a real shame...

Good stuff gwEm. It's a nice looking bridge for sure and I'll definitely get one if I ever buy/build a strat.
But on a more serious note, now you know it's time to sell off those Vs and get some more of Leo's babies PDT_003

err... no :) :)

i do appreciate fender guitars alot more now, but i don't feel as if i need any more. fernandes do this jaguar/jazzmaster with telecaster electronics and an 80s paint job though. that does look pretty cool.
