Splitting Hums

Hey, im just thinking about a possibility here..

i want a strat with HSS setup...I want a pretty high output Humbucker, and some lowish.. in the gilmourish feel singles.. (im thinking apache's or something.)

which out of all the BK humbuckers would split to a single that would have a close output to a gilmourish feel?  i know that a SSS setup would be best.. or maybe a lower output hum like a VH2.. but im not looking for that really.

im just thinking at the moment, no definite plans

I still say you should get a MM the singles can cover the gilmour and for when you wanna do anything metal you can flip tothe MM

also it is great for leads.

I'm going to disagree here because I had the Miracle Man paired with low output singles (Sultans) in an HSS strat.  It was my first BKP purchase & never really worked.

Basically, there was such a huge difference in power between bridge & mid/neck that if you dialled in a nice clean sound for the singles, the bridge position was unusable.  Dial in a nice gain sound for the bridge & the neck just sounded weedy.  Also, the MM bridge doesn't have a particularly nice clean sound (even split).

FWIW I swapped the MM for a Nailbomb (kept the Sultans) & it's much, MUCH better.   The NB is still more powerful, just not skull-splittingly so :)  Also, it's more organic with a far nicer clean sound & splits well.

So that would be my vote based on experience: Nailbomb + Sultans/Milks/Apaches

(NB: I've never tried Mothers Milks or Apaches, so am assuming that they are similar power level to Sultans...)

Yeah, I'm not sure a really high output humbucker and low output singles will really play well together. It might sound like a good idea to increase versatility, but it'll just make your life harder.

The BKP site itself has some good HSS suggestions, like NB/IT/IT, MM/TS/TS, HD/IT/IT etc. It really depends what flavour humbucker you're looking for.
