Well you can get thrash out of a fireball with crawlers or even single coils

But

Youre not wrong, the pig can do it, but its a bit sudgier, a bit more organic, overkill in power especially through a fireball - the PK has that ultra-tight low and mid grind for old school thrash. A miracle man would also be a good choice, but its rather a different beast.

Painkiller bridge would probably be the best choice for your requirements.  I have one in my Jackson KV2 so I know it works well in US neck-thru Jacksons.  I posted a few clips with it (through an Engl Savage here & here

But IMO the Holy Diver is a better all-round match for US Jacksons & does old school thrash very well.  Have a search for posts by me in Players containing "Holy Diver" & you'll find plenty of my trusty RR1T gnashing away   FWIW, my favourite ones are here & here

My only experience with the Warpig has been in all-mahogany Gibsons so not sure how it would sound in the much brighter Jacksons.  Probably very good, but with a Powerball, you simply don't need that much power & saturation from the pickups.

Regarding the neck pickup, do you have any particular requirements?  If you just want a sweet clean for Metallica-esque intros/"One" kinda stuff etc then the Cold Sweat is a good match for the PK bridge & does neck leads very nicely too - it's a great all-rounder.  The PK neck is very powerful (with a ceramic magnet - the only ceramic neck BKP make) & is great for neck lead work.  The Holy Diver neck has IMHO the best clean sound in existence :)

wow thats one great answer!!!!  8)
since we nearly have the same equipment i can easely see how it will sound!
nice cowboy from hell cover!
i guess the painkiller is just what i need, although i would love to hear how the warpig would sound through your KK1!

btw: what is in your opinion the better guitar: the RR1 or the KHII?

You mean between my RR1T & KV2?  It's very close, I love both guitars.  I wish I owned more of them :) (if the £ picks up against the $ maybe I will...)

I guess I like the RR1T just a little bit more because I prefer the 3-way toggle selector switch over the lever (plus it's in a more accessible position).

Also, the "standard" neck profile feels slightly more comfortable to me than the "speed" neck of the KV2.  There's very little difference between them & both are very nice necks, but the standard is just a tiny bit thicker & has 6000 fretwire (as opposed to 6105 on the speed neck).

I wish I owned an RR1 (i.e. with a Floyd) because it would be almost perfect - probably the only things I'd change would be the pickups (for a BKP HD set) & the wiring of the pots (from 1V/2T to 2V/1T).

Hehe, I have a RR1, next week I'll put a Painkiller bridge and Cold Sweat neck in it. Play it through an Engl SE and Engl pro cab (V30). Very eager to hear it (in comparison with the current SD Custom/Jazz combination).

Question though, Antag. What would be the result of the new pot wiring?

Nothing really, except that I'd find two Volumes slightly more useful than two Tones.

Two volumes allow you to roll-off the neck volume, then use the switch to quickly cut in/out a held note like James Hetfield does in his "To Live is to Die" solo, or Randy Rhoads does in his solo spot on the Tribute live album (& probably 100s of Les Paul users have done over the years, but I can't think of any off the top of my head... :))

Also, the position of the Volume on the RR1 is right on the limit of being too far forward for my tastes.  If there's a neck volume in that position, then there's no danger of my picking hand knocking & gradually rolling off the sound when I'm playing palm-muted downpicked riffs (I splay the last 3 fingers of my picking hand quite wide so I have this problem on a lot of guitars where the volume is really close to the bridge pickup).

I like simple control layouts - a single Volume positioned where my flailing hand won't bump into it & a simple 3-way pickup selector is all I really need.  If I was having the guitar custom built I wouldn't even bother with one Tone pot.

FWIW, I've still not got round to making that change on my RR1T (having owned it for 6 years) so it's not a really big deal...

oh how i love this part...i guess it isnt the best thing you can do to your guitar but who cares!!!
i always thought there isnt any difference between the RR1 and the RR1T....are there any?

Erm. I think its easier than you think, just get a normal tone pot and replace the volume pot.
