Anyone own an Anderson

I have bad Anderson gas.

I am thinking of ordering a drop top classic but it's going to be big money, feed my gas with pictures etc  :D

Any one know how much difference the hollow/solid thing makes to the overall tone.

I have heard the solids have more punch and are better under lots of gain / in a band situation but I am trying to put it into context. I mean, if it's the order of magnitude like rosewood / maple fingerboards it wouldn't bother me but if it is indeed a large tangible difference I will have to go solid. The DT classic does already has a fair bit of routing under the pickguard though.

The reason I am asking is I have seen a Hollow DT classic with exactly the specs I want, the only thing stopping me is the hollow bit. I do use quite a big of gain, think alterbridge levels.

based on what i've tried, the chambered thing does seem to add a little semi-hollow character, little more sweetness and less tightness which works well for lower gain stuff. but whether that's the chambering or just differences in wood from guitar to guitar, i dunno...

personally, i'd go solid if it were going to be used for "quite a bit of gain". though if you can try a bunch of different guitars to compare them, then that's the best thing to do.

EDIT: i should add, i haven't been able to try an anderson, that's based on the guitars i have tried which have been chambered, suhr and the like, and also some of the newer gibsons. it's possible that anderson chambering is different from those companies' takes on it. :)

Friend has a Classic (think sunburst Strat) - beautifully made guitar and very sweet in the hands - can't comment on amplified sounds as I have only tried it 'unplugged' - he rarely plays it as he prefers his JV Strat

There's one in my local shop that used to be sound control, it's next to a bunch of Vigers on the wall. It's a shame they'll probably only let me play them over their dead bodies.

There's one in my local shop that used to be sound control, it's next to a bunch of Vigers on the wall. It's a shame they'll probably only let me play them over their dead bodies.

bring someone old with you, a relative or something. it's worth it to get to try it (the vigiers too). :)

EDIT: wow, just checked the link, £1799 s/h? i've only tried one tyler, and it was amazing, but they are pretty pricey... :(

I own a Hollow T drop top...killer axe!!!!!!!!!will describe the hollow nature of mine...I play through Mesa Mk II C + amps, which are capable of loads of  gain-I prefer low to mid gain settings,esp. with this axe-first of all, the pickups-Very important here..the Anderson pups are GOOD-my T has a vintage hot wind in the bridge..so I do not know how a hotter pup would do,but with a good amount of volume and a fair amount of gain(8 on a C+ is a ton of gain..I am talking half of that..), I get the most amazing ,controllable feedback-ITS LIKE HAVING A SUSTAINER-unbelievable...but as far as chugging it out max gain,well, this isnt the deal for that-I would grab a Paul if I wanted to go chuggachuggachugga...but for sweet,headturning,boutique TONE..hellyeah-very versatile for cleans and mid gain rock-not a metal guitar(body is basswood...hell, this is a tele anyway.!)
there is a Tom Anderson messageboard that could prob. help in all things HOLLOW....keep me posted :)

Indeed! Cheaper than a new Anderson though, it's in practically mint condition bar some pick scratches on the guard.
