Customer service!
« on: February 15, 2009, 08:48:31 PM »
I sent an email to Tom Anderson Guitarworks today - and five hours later got a reply from Tom Anderson himself.  On a Sunday!

I'm impressed.  :)

No, no, it's nothing exciting!  Or expensive.

I just emailed with a geeky technical question about the Pigtail wraparound bridge they use on the Atom guitar.  I have the same bridge and I wanted to know how they set it up.

The metallic green Strat?  Not crazy about the gold h/w, but I love the colour and the matching headstock!  :)

Philly, I hope you do realize that I'm only joking, as a send up on the 'why people post on here' as well as FiXXer's thread.

Good stuff. As we know Tim and the BKP staff give great service, but I'd like to add that recently I've been in contact with Kevan at Tremol-no and Adam at Floyd-upgrades and they've both been great, responding really quickly to queries and giving helpful advice.

Isn't it the same bridge as on PRS 250 Singlecuts?

No, the PRS adjustable stoptail is similar but wider (from front to back) and the saddles have a bit less travel.  It's more like a modified version of the standard PRS stoptail.

But yes, they're pretty close!  And the TonePros wraparound is almost identical to the Pigtail, but heavier because the Pigtail is aluminium.  :)

That is indeed good service. For me it's the difference between the 'big' names and the rest. A number of companies I have dealt with of late have a really nice personal touch - Tim at BKP, Zach at ZVEX and Martyn Booth have all spoken to me or emailed me personally whenever I have asked a question. I doubt very much this is something the bigger companies could do - even if they wanted to.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Speaking of PRS tailpieces I heard a couple of interesting things last week:

1)  TonePros don't make a replacement non-adjustable wrapover for PRS guitars as they can't improve on the stock one

2)  A replacement non-adjustable wrapover from PRS is £190(!!!!!)  :o

Well, there's nothing you can really do with that bridge - if they made one it just would end up being an ever-so-slightly-different copy (because presumably PRS have it patented in some way).

But I don't think that's the reason they don't make one.  Their bridges aren't really "improved" versions of standard bridges, they are standard bridges with added locking devices.   I bought one of their aluminium wrapover/studs sets for an LP Jr, and it was just a normal Gotoh wrapover with a set of TonePros studs!

And they do make locking studs for PRS bridges, which is basically what they do for any tailpiece or wrapover.

2)  A replacement non-adjustable wrapover from PRS is £190(!!!!!)  :o

And that is just taking the piss.  If it's a PRS owner buying replacement parts, they should be able to get them at a reasonable price.

Actually, I have a spare PRS bridge - I wonder if it should sell it?

I think the stock bridge is a nice lightweight machined aluminium jobby, so what a good aftermarket person like Gotoh would make anyway.  You're right about the locking studs Phil, that's what they offer.

Also out of interest, a pair of pickup rings are £20 and a volume pot is £22(!!!!!!)
