how do you think this would sound?

any idea? suspicious of all the holes, maybe it makes no difference though, considering rudolf schenker's ferrari V

would the holes brighten the tone do you think? or something else?

I'm not too keen on the Holy V. There doesn't seem to be enough wood left to get any response from the wood that's actually there  :D

I kinda prefer the Holy Explorer, although I couldn't really say why.

sort of reminds me of the V-90, I think it was called...I had a righty that I turned upside down-had 1 pup, 24 frets-same neck and fingerboard as this one-I LOVED THE NECK !!!it was killer!!!!I like the looks of the v-90 far more than this one personally-I have always wished they would so the v-90 again(in lefty!)

Yeah, it is a typical Gibson idea - "we don't know how to refine the sound or features, so we'll just do some stupid gimmick which looks different".

Looks and sound-wise, I don't mind the holes in the wings but I worry about the big boomerang cutout between the neck and bridge.  There's very little wood there in the middle.   Not sure about the strength of the headstock either, unless it's made of some space-age material.

it's fuc*in' ugly. and i can't imagine, like Phil said, how that ridiculous hole in the middle can not suffocate the overall resonance... gibson is doing nice things with its "new" les pauls, but its work on the other models can be at least described as unimaginative to be kind... grotesque to be objective.
has anyone got an inverted flying V?  :?

I'd imagine it must sound something like my neighbour's dog, as there's no chance I'd let either into my living room.

Its ugly and its dumb. Vs dont have very good vibration mechanics as it is - the lack of wood around the bridge kills lows. And now they've chopped a piece out between the bridge and the neck, cutting the main line of vibration transmission? I bet it sounds brash, thin and irritating, and lacks sustain.

Ah! So it sounds more like my neighbour's wife than his dog.

Whatevery you might think of it. Those more unpopular GOM models tend to fall in price a lot because shops are forced to stock them but they get stuck on their shelves.

Happened to many of those before. Wait 6 months at it will be half price or less.

the weird (and very useful) thing is that many great guitars have fallen in this category and "suffered" of major price drops... i got my two gibsons (wich are very tasty, at least in my opinion) this way!

That's what's so annoying about Gibson.  Whenever they (miraculously) come up with something innovative that fits a gap in the market - like the Nighthawk series - they abandon it after 5 minutes to make another comedy version of a Les Paul, SG, V or Explorer.

It's impossible to find an ES-339 anywhere, but you can buy a novelty self-tuning Les Paul, a V with holes in it or an SG with chrome tailfins and a brake light (or something).  It's idiotic.

OK, OK, I should've said "in the UK".

Even then, two of those are the ones with figured maple tops so they're a lot more expensive... and don't seem to sell as well.
