I kind of agree with that. My example would be the Comfortably Numb solos, never heard anyone nail them like Gilmour can.

Also, Al Pitrelli ftw  :P

If it's the one I'm thinking about, it was quite a few years ago.... and in the meantime Andy's has closed, been taken over by Music Ground (I think) and re-opened.

It was a Wunjo's (orange shop front). If I remember right it was like 3 years ago maybe more.

Probably a diffefent one, then.  I'm pretty sure the one I saw had a diamond pattern finish and DiMarzios - MegaDrive bridge and whatever he used in the neck position in those days (Al Di Meola?).  I think he had that design about the same time as the blue/green crackle one on the back of Maximum Security.

I'd have to say my favourite Megadeth guitarist would have to be Marty Friedman he fit the bill so well.

Chris Poland was also fantastic and Ai Pitrelli was a great choice although short lived, that Drover guy was a joke.

Broderick is clearly the most technically advanced of the lot but Friedman I can hear him a mile away everytime he's got his own unique phrasing and voice on the instrument.. Broderick sounds like a Machine.

Freidman by a mile IMHO

Broderick may have played Marty's solos fantastically well live (& if anything, actually made them better) but

Nice to see you there. I remember you saying on this place that Broderick gives "a little something more" to friedman leads, and I just agree with that and with what you said above.

AND let's illustrate it with the following videos ! If you want, just for fun, to see how the last megadeth guitarists dealed with the solo of Tornado, then here it is :

Chris Broderick :  (precise and solid as a rock)   :D

Marty Friedman  (with the feeling « of that time » with my beloved Rhoads...):  8)

Marty Friedman (with a more clearer sound AND with Paul Gilbert !)  :)

Al Pitrelli (Rude awakening video) - I like his feeling but is that enough ?  :?

Glen Drover (That one night video) - really dislike his playing ! :x

Even if it was one of Friedman's solo (more easy for him to master his own work), I think Broderick is, in the live, more close to the-note-by-note-of-the-CD than Friedman imo (especially in the part starting in his performance at 0'34), and course far more closer to the original solo than the 2 others ones...)

Al Pitrelli plays the best version here by far it's so effortless to him, in no way forced and his TIMING is amazing.

Yes I think Pitrelli is good. I like his feeling a lot and liked his solos in the World need a hero album (especially on dread and fugitive mind...)

His playing on the video is great and seems easy, but imo the closest to the note to note is broderick.

1992 London Hammeo?  I was there.  :)

EDIT:  Wrong.  Just checked my ticket stubs, I was at the 25th March 1991 Hammeo show (with The Almighty and Alice In Chains supporting).  Great gig.

Antag also said he was there !

That was the best Megadeth period, I Think...
Anyway I found out an update video Of Chris Broderick, with a far best sound quality...(so let's give him another chance )
The shooting is also cool with nice close ups. The guy plays it easy too, still not with the feeling of Friedman, but I found it just stunning, look how precise and solid it is  !

I love Friedman.  I remember being incredibly excited when I heard he'd got the Megadeth gig, as I was already playing his Dragon's Kiss solo album to death, and I was already a Megadeth fan as well.  He has a very unique melodic style that's very individual.

I also rate Broderick from seeing what he did live with Nevermore.  TBH though, I'm more interested to see what he comes up with himself, rather than how well he plays someone elses solos...

That's what I think too, anyway, if you're asking, here is an update info by Mustaine talking about the next album :

"Great week, we're getting a lot of stuff done. I was singing on "1320" again today. Did a lot of work on the choruses and Chris has been playing his butt off. There's one particular song that he was doing an acoustic solo on, a flamenco part, and I told him "Dude, you have got to slow down!" [jokingly] he was playing so fast...".
