i see two problems :
1 - Mustaine is a dictator
 does anyone doubt that ? I guess you speak the thruth here...let's add I read Mustaine in an interview saying that he loved learning Megadeth songs to new guitarists, and that Chris was really "
teacheable" and that
"he couln't ask for more". You can read it here
http://www.megadeth.com/popups/revolver0209.html
But there should be another reason.....As I said Mustaine doesn't pay compliment so often....Let's see :
when i saw them with broderick i must say he is an outstanding player possibly better technically and when it comes to speed but when it comes to feel and phrasing he has nothing on friedman
we still have to wait to see what his writing in megadeth is like though
As you said, the next Megadeth album will probably will help to build a more constructive opinion to see if Broderick can add some more... 8)
Perhaps if Broderick plays something truly mind blowing of his own on the next 'Deth record, I might change my opinion, but he'll have to come up with something pretty damned special....
I can't comment on Broderick until I hear him on record and see what he contributes to the songs.
and Chris is the man for the job and the guitarist who could take Megadeth to the next level.
..... Didn't mustaine said that just to put some more pressure as they are finalizing their new record, cause now everybody is awaiting for a Rust-in-Peace-on-steroids, which just cannot happen...
Rust in Peace is and will remain the-state-of-the-art speed metal album..., imo.
The alchemy between unique Friedman's style and musical creativity linked to Mustaine's raw top the line rythm motions (with thousand of stunning riffs per songs) was so perfect and there is no other album to compare seriously to this monument.
Agree about the cr@oppy guitar tone though...
i see two problems :
2 - chris broderick is AN AWESOME guitarrist. FOR SURE. i loved his two hands and sweeps
but, for me, he do not possess the CHARISMA friedman Has or HAD.. Plus, he doesnt have the SAME Feeling.
This can be one of the reason why Mustaine said Chris was the best megadeth guitarist, because it might not have been the same story with Friedman...I think that Mustaine was just fed up to take lessons from Friedman
More seriously I think that the musical influence of Friedman took a too much important place in Megadeth, especially at the end, in the Risk album, which didn't suit Mustaine at all (and maybe the fans). I remember him saying he just couldn't stand hear Friedman playing anymore while recording this album.... (But we all agree Risk bad success is not
'because' of Friedman playing...)
