Which bass
« on: March 15, 2009, 01:47:41 PM »
I am getting a new bass (when I get my pedals) and again my inability to make a decision is driving me mad so I would really appreciate some input.
The options (all Ibanez)

SR505 http://www.ibanez.co.jp/world/country/frame_uk.html

K5 http://www.ibanez.co.jp/world/country/frame_uk.html

BTB775PB http://www.ibanez.co.jp/world/country/frame_uk.html

Again, any help would be wonderful.

Some day you will regret you didn't get a Jazz Bass.

I dont like Ibanez basses much, but you really need to go into a shop and play all three to see which you prefer.

By look I would get the BTB... But not sure if that is the better way to go...

The SR505 seems to have nice spec too

Trouble is I have been offered a (used) Stingray for a fantastic price but I really want a five string, or do I?

i've got a cort artisan A5, and i have to say that it's a great bass! quite cheap too...

if you look for EXTREME playability you should buy a jazz, though. shorter scale makes it more guitarist friendly... :)

Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

I went for the Musicman, I think for the price I made the right decision and it turns out that it used to belong to the bass player I was in a band with years ago.

Great choice ;   straight for the 'up market' item - whilst you still had the chance to get one at an attractive price.

I love the simplicity of those  - and ( from what I last remember ) the lovely clear tone .

Nice one ...  :D

^ And that is always my (financial downfall) although it was a great deal it still wasn't cheap for a 'second' instrument but once I start looking into things I always end up spending more then I intended, whoops!!!!

We sold a brand new Stingray for £750 last week. Hell of a bargain for the chap that got it.

I really can't see past Precisions, myself.

In a year you'll have forgotten the cost, but still be enjoying the Bass.  :)

Did you mean a Fender Jazz?  It has the standard 34" scale length.  :?

It is a bit narrower at the nut than a Precision, but I'm not sure if that makes it any easier to play.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

It does - i vastly prefer the nut width on a jazz

Us bass players go crazy over stuff like nut width and string spacing... it's all a bit mad.
