^ Me too  :)

Once my scratchplate arrives, I'll let you know how my Esquire has turned out as well  ;)

Will do.  I've been messing with the 'c--ked wah' cap over th last few days.  Think I've got it sorted now with a 0.015uf.

This thing now reeks of Rev Willie G!

Just picked the tele up. Will be playing it quite a bit tonight and posting some pics up tomorrow for those that are interested. Early impressions are that CS fenders are very nice indeed.

Definately interested here !

I hope Dave posts some shots of his Esquire 'conversion' too .  It was interesting to read about the tone cap value .

 Nice one chaps .  :D

must be the season for Esquire conversions - I've got a single bridge pickup in my '72 Tele Custom and am planing on a new scratchplate to make it look right - the resonance with just the one pickup is noticeably better.  The guitar just screams.

Sorry mate - here's a pic with a tiny review. Been playing too much to think about posting stuff!

The guitar is very well made and feels very sturdy (I think most teles do though). I don't normally go for a relic look but must admit that although this one is relic'd it's not too over the top. Weight is around 7.4lbs and well balanced - my old tele weighs in at 8.2lbs so the difference is noticeable.

The single pickup is a bit of a monster - it's a SD BG Esquire. Output is much, much higher than I'm used to at (I think) 15k. It took me a while to get used to it - I even had to play with the EQ in my amp and I very rarely do this! After about 30 mins worth of experimentation I found some very decent sounds. I think I'll need to take longer on pedal settings though as my OCD sounded a bit 'farty' - not sure why, it might just be that my ears took a bashing for a while. I'm more impressed with the drive sounds through my ampo than the cleans - this may again need me to spend a while fiddling around until I get a nicer clean sound.

The frets are much bigger than I'm used to - loaded with 6105s I can really tell the difference between the vintge style frets on my strat and this. It took me a few hours to adjust to the difference - the biggest issue was that I was fretting too hard and pushing notes out of tune. Learning to be a bit more light fingered now.

I am very impressed with it. The CS stuff I had tried before this (aside from a 60s CS strat) left me a little unconvinced and although I'm not a convert yet I think my next Fender, if I'm ever allowed another guitar, may well be a CS.

I like the sound a tele makes but hate the look !! Not sure about the sound on a strat but they do look better !

Thinks!! -- "I bet I get a roasting for that comment."

Not from me mate. I'm a Fender man and love the look of Teles and Strats, others don't like them so much. Would be a boring place if everyone agreed on everything!

A stunning piece of kit there Ian.  :)

The whole Esquire vibe ( stripped down and ready to stun ) is in many ways the ultimate in un-diluted guitar lore for me .  The guitar that started this whole shooting match off - and with a killer pickup nestling in that lovely 50's type 3 brass saddle bridge.

I can see ( and imagine the sound ) of why that is so hard to put down !

It has always made me smile,  when I hear or read that the most brutal guitar has to have humbuckers - and look like a fashion accessory for Darth Vadar.  In truth, to play a Tele bridge pickup through a huge clean Fender Twin at considerable volume is absolutely stunning ( quite literally ).

Great stuff Ian!

I think you'll find that you won't get a great clean sound out of that guitar.  That pickup is very hot and fat, and played clean will probably be too thick sounding with loads of mids?  This will be why your OCD sounds 'farty' too, you're suffering from "mids overload"

I'd try using more 'neutral' settings on your amp and pedals to really let the guitar shine through  :D
