I didn't realise the pickup was a stack!  Pretty surprised by that.

I was gobsmacked surprised when Dave told me it was a stack. He then got his equipment out and told me the output was 26k (I think it was 26k).

It's a great guitar and sounds fantastic through Dave's deluxe - which I am now GASing (and saving) for.

Just curious, is a Telecaster thicker than a Stratocaster?

The bridge has more grit but also a lot of treble. The classic trick is to back-off the guitar's tone just a little to remove some of the 'ice pick'. The neck is often criticised as not-as-good-as a strat. But to me it's just different, lower output, darker more jazzy.

sort of semi related to this threads resurrection. I tried a number of Dave's guitars yesterday and can confirm that the PRS Modern Eagle is simply stunning in all areas. Sooo easy to play (and I'm not much of a player), a nice weight and well balanced, great finish, awesome neck and above all it just sounds perfect - the coil split is also very good indeed.

How about a swap Dave  :P

ooh,  good point ian.  i need to make sure Tf lets me have a nosey round the modern eagle when the sparkly esquire its done

johnny - not thicker but traditionally they have a sharper edge radius which i suppose could make them look a little thicker

leo started out with what was available, which was roughsawn 2" planks.  by the time they are planed smooth they come out at 1 3/4"

Aye, I think thats probably why they feel a little different. I hate the edges, so bloody annoying on the arm.

And I was asking physically not tonally, sorry Ken, lol

I thoroughly recommend it! I'll be looking for excuses to stop off at Dave's as I was 'just passing by'

I said to Ian yesterday that I would take it to you when I come and collect the Teles as I knew you'd want to check it out.  Let me know when you want me to drop off the Thinline by the way  ;)

Just as an extra note, my Modern Eagle is by far the best humbucker equipped guitar I've ever played.

Yep, my experience as well. And I only had about 10 mins with it.

Jonny, Fender Japan teles (those without binding) have slightly rounded edges - which kind of "annoys" the purists. I used to laugh at them getting annoyed, but I have to admit that I now prefer playing my Mexican Baja, with its sharp edges, to my FJ "52" with it's rounded edges
