You know when you decide to sell a guitar and....
« on: March 21, 2009, 04:19:09 PM »
.... you dig it out from behind the wardrobe where it's been lying for decades, blow off the cobwebs and think "I'd better give it a polish and a new set of strings"....

Anyway, I decided to sell my PRS SE EG.  It's been sitting around for the best part of 3 years doing absolutely nothing, since I started shielding it with copper foil and got really pissed off cutting my hands to pieces.  Anyway, I've always got loads of other projects on the go...

So today I got it out of the gigbag, stripped out that pesky copper foil (to be replaced with conductive paint), then started looking at it... hmm, that board's a really nice piece of rosewood, and the neck's quite a nice shape... I should've changed the nut like I was planning to... it's nice and light too... I haven't got any other set-neck HSS guitars.... and I have some spare old pickups I could put in it....

Now I'm not so sure I want to sell it after all.   :?

Anyone else know that feeling?

Nope...

What does "sell a guitar" mean?

(Actually, I have sold guitars in the past: I sold two to pay some bills once. And I sold one to my niece a while back, I'd have given it to her, but her parents wanted her to buy it instead...)

 Yeah, I know you're not a seller.  I don't normally have a problem, but every once in a while I'm about to sell something and I think hold on, I've got worse guitars than this but I'm planning to keep them...

I've come close to selling my Thinline Tele several times, but wouldn't dream of it now, I finally realised how nice it is.   On the other hand, there are several guitars I never touch (not that any of my guitars get played much...  ) but I keep them for pointless sentimental reasons.

I know what you mean Philly.  I did exactly what you've done with the Gibson LP Special I had for sale.  Then decided to sell it again and now it's gone.

I'm currently getting the Classic Vibe Tele ready for sale but Ian's post about the Esquire has me thinking of another use for it.....

Yes Philly, I absolutely do know the feeling. I had it a couple of weeks back with my old Epi LP. I was selling it to a friend, and hadn't played it since about June when I got my PRS SC245.

In preparation for selling, I got it out of the case, polished it up, put new strings on it, set it up and plugged it in to make sure all the electrics were still working...and ended up playing it for an hour, and wondering why on earth I was selling it. It was Mule-loaded and I never really gave it enough of a workout through my Mesa Express - but then i discovered it sounded fantastic. However, give that its replacement was already there, and I'd promised it to a good friend, I let it go. But if I hadn't known it was going to a good home, I might have been tempted to hang onto it.

Well, I'm starting to think I may hang on to this EG.  It's a cheap guitar, but a good cheap guitar, and a few of those are fun to have around.

But now I must decide what else I can sell... I really want to get the numbers down.

Haha, yeah, maybe!  Like the Emerald one, but with dot markers(?) and a narrower headstock.....  I can dream, can't I?

But seriously (or more seriously....) I just wish I had less guitars.  I wish I had less stuff, generally.  But it's so hard to get rid of things.  :(

I had this after my 12 string acoustic went on eBay, gave a strum just before I boxed it. I want an acoustic again

I've had this a few times. Most notably with a 335. Hopefully it won't happen again when I sell my next guitar.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Yep, I know that feeling.  The lesson to learn is that when you start to get it, DON'T sell the bloody guitar! :)

Yeah... but sometimes this works - clean it up, change the strings, put it back in the case, wait a week or two until your ardour has cooled again, THEN sell it.  :)

The hardest ones to sell are the ones I've done a lot of mods/fine-tuning on, because then I develop a sentimental attachment even if the end results aren't that great.

I had the same thought today, get 2 or 3 essentially different, high quality guitars instead of the 1-2 dozen mediocre ones that eat strings like snowflakes melt in the sun.
