Neck heavy guitar

I've got a Washburn which I really like, the only thing that annoys me is it's neck heavy.

Daft question but would changing the position of the strap buttons help ?

I guess I could get a strap which is more grippy.

Moving the strap towards the neck will help as it'll give it more angle.  A grippier strap is a must though.

What type of tuners has it got?  If they're big heavy Schallers or Grovers you could try swapping the metal buttons for pearloid or ebony ones, it saves a few ounces.

When I first got my Thinline Tele the headstock tended to dive towards the floor.... whilst rotating round my back.  With the pearloid buttons it's much better, and they match the scratchplate too.

dont underestimate this advice.. try it with different straps - thicker/grippier usually makes  a big difference!!

as for moving strap buttons - depends on the guitar so show us what you got

well there is certainly no better place for the strap buttons than where they already are, very rare you get S-shaped guitars not balancing

lighter tuners may be a good suggestion.

I do find it odd because the body is a big slab of (supposedly) mahogany

Will the tuners really make that much difference....a few tens of grams levering over that short distance...

Anyway

Only thing I can think, except the grippy strap (which is annoying cos it yanks your top about) is maybe...now no one think I'm crazy(er than usual) if theres space put some lead or similar in the control cavity.

Yeah, they can - made a massive difference on my Tele.

On a set of small-button Schallers it saves about 30g in total - not much maybe, but it works.

Grippy strap and a tight T-should is what you need. I find that my looser t's slip around and irritate my back to hell.

Besty advice I can give is for a "grippy" strap as has already been suggested. A think one for sure.

thanks for all the input,

wrt to the strat, it's a lite ash, I bought a h-h scratchplate and stuck some HD's in there (it was already routed H-S-H).

eventually sold because it was buzzy (even after a full set up from Feline) and sounded like really tinny, even with the HD's
