Tempting... although I prefer the Black Sunburst I think. And I guess if I went PRS it would be a Modern Eagle or McCarty rather than a LP copy.

:D Surely you can't say 'LP copy'!!!! Didn't PRS win their case against Gibson!!!!!

Win or no win, it's stil not original :) (Twinfan, please don't hit me)

Gizmo,

You sure you bought a McCarty model?  Or a McCarty Burst Custom 22?

Nice choice either way  :)

What's the difference? For that matter whats the difference between a McCarty and a Modern Eagle?

Yes Twinfan it is def a Mccarty. Its has birds and its a wide fat neck. I have large hands so it feels very comfortable. I think one of the reviews in the harmony central link in a previous post said the neck was thin...well mine certainly isnt!!

It was born in 2005 and has the 20th Anniv logo on the plastic bit above the nut. The birds are not the 20th aniv birds though.

Hunter. Im not sure about changing the pups yet. I havent even played it on my amp, only a practice amp that I leave at my parents for when I go home. I have a LP with a Mule and Blackdog in which covers the old school sounds but I dont play it much. I bought the PRS as I love my strat and the way it plays but wanted a more LP sound. This guitar is it. I am not sure if im going to sell the LP yet. This will effect my choice of pups ie keep it old school PAF style and have a really refined LP sound or go a bit more modern.

What's the difference? For that matter whats the difference between a McCarty and a Modern Eagle?

The main difference is that the McCarty has a thicker body than the Cu22.  It also has vintage style tuners, a thinner headstock (I think) and McCarty pickups, and there are probably also some arcane differences in the timbers.

The Modern Eagle has the rosewood neck, different pickups and hardware again... I'm not sure about the body thickness.

Dave will correct me on the details!

Nice score Gizmo  :)  Yours is the same as one of mine then.  The first one I got is an '05 with the Anniversary TRC.  Peach can't have had yours in stock long as it wasn't on their website I don't think?  If it had been, I'd have been tempted to snap it up myself.  If you ever want/need to sell it give me a shout  ;)

You're pretty much there, Phil  ;)

Custom 22 - thinner mahogany back, thicker headstock, locking tuners, 5-way switch, Dragon II pickups, wide fat or wide then neck options, 3-way switch option (plus the usual PRS 10 top, gold hardware and birds options)

McCarty - thicker mahogany back, wide fat neck only, thinner headstock and non-locking tuners, McCarty pickups, Eastern Maple top (as used on old LPs), plus the usual PRS 10 top, gold hardware and birds options.  This model is now discontinued, except for the McCarty Korina and the McCarty Smokeburst and the odd special run.

Original Modern Eagle - based on the McCarty but withthe thicker headstock andlocking tuners of the Custom 22, built by the Private Stock team with some work done on the regular production line, top grade woods chosen, mixed hardware, RP pickups, solid Brazilian Rosewood neck, abalone birds, thin matt nitroceullose finish, trem option.  Discontinued due to issues with the paperwork required to use/import/export Brazilian Rosewood.

New Modern Eagle II - as the old one, but no Brazilian Rosewood and 57/08 pickups in place of the RPs.

Dave, you gotta leave some PRSs for some others, too. Everyone likes to play!
