Pre-wired Pickguards

So I'm going to be ordering a set of Irish Tours at the weekend and don't know whether I'm going to just buy the set or buy them pre-wired to a pickguard. I don't have any experience with soldering and don't actually own a soldering iron. Is there any soldering involved when you buy the set with a pre wired pickguard? If there is I am probably just as well to buy the set and just get the store to put them in for me.

I haven't owned a pre-wired pickguard, but I think you'd still need to solder three wires - the two wires from the jack and the grounding wire from the tremolo spring claw.

Philly's right, I ordered my ITs with a pre-wired guard (and BKP wired it how I wanted with non-standard controls at no extra charge), you still need to solder it to the jack and trem claw.

I would recommend getting a decent soldering iron (mine's 30W I think, not too expensive from Maplins) and learn how to solder. It's not that difficult to do - with a little practice, I bet you could do at least as good a job as I can! And in the long run it will save you loads of money and make you a little bit more independent... (just keep reminding yourself that one end's bluddy hot! :lol:)

Can get a soldering iron from Maplins for around £5. I would always use silver solder the lead free stuff is really good now but it does need a hotter iron than previously make sure you get one for electronic joints some are structural solders. There are plenty of how to guides on the web
