A Lesson In Sensitivity From Mr Beck

I'm always impressed when I hear his playing.  One of the few guys around with an instantly recognisable tone, I think.

Interestingly, it looks like he has a locking nut on that strat.  They destroy your tone, apparently...

 :?

Mark.

Edit - actually, is it an Earvana nut..?

It's a Wilkinson roller nut, which they used on the early Jeff Beck Strats.  The current model has an LSR nut, I think, so presumably that's one of his old Strats with a big fat neck.

Beck's amazing and totally unique.  But when I saw him a few years back, I must admit that by halfway through the show I was a bit tired of all the skronking noises and playing melodies with the whammy bar.  I can only listen to him in small doses, after that I'm crying out for something simple!

Spot on IMO Philly. I watched the live at ronnie scotts DVD a while ago. Very impressive playing but I found myself getting bored after the third song.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Is she really that cute, or do we just like her because she's a woman who plays a stringed electric instrument?

(I think she's pretty cute.  )

Always been a big fan of Jeff Beck, even though he's lost me sometimes with his forays into fusion etc.

I think he is at his "most listenable" when he has got a good singer fronting the band - Rod Stewart, Imogen Heap - particularly liked what I heard of the Beth Hart gigs...unfortunately Jeff didn't choose to put out any of her songs from the 2006 tour - only poor quality audience recordings available on YouTube.

I saw Jeff Beck in The House Of Blues in Las Vegas 3 years ago. It was a blinding gig. I've got a load of his albums and the studio stuff does have more balance to his playing.

I suppose he's a bit like Marmite or Cornford amps - a lot of people like them , a lot of people don't.

One thing I have noticed is a lot of name guitarists rate Beck highly - Satriani, Vai, Blackmore, Hetfield, Clapton, Page etc.  On the other hand when I play some JB to my son (who has a fairly wide taste in music) or the missus I can see that vacant look in their eyes......... :? :?

I, too, intensely dislike Jeff Beck's 'music', Adam. You are not alone!

A week or two ago there was a Jool Holland "the blues" special, and Beck was on this and really showed his technique off with a 3 piece band.

A bit like Michael Jackson then, apart from the last word. :o

EDIT - I have had a few drinks tonight and realise, if you pardon the pun, that is a little below the belt.
