That saying that the NB doesnt work properly with Mahogany,, well, in my case, I think the contrary, they are really great... (In fact, I really hated the PK in my  Orbit, and I replaced with a NB, and now is perfect)

don't forget you're talking about a neckthrough maple guitar with mahogany wings... that's substantially a maple guitar, so bright as hell! i'm sure you hated PKs in it, but i'm glad to know that the A5 NBs sound great, because i want to do something similar!
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

You are more than right.. I think that was what killed the PK... At least for me... I found it toooo harsh and trebly. I gues the hard maple necktrough was the key ;).

Things I've tested in a FULL HEAVY MAHOGANY guitar... (Caparison Angelus custom and ESP Explorer), MM and C-NB in the Angelus, and MM in the Explorer.

Both works absolutly amazing with them... I dont know how would stand the A-NB, but the C-NB works really cool ;). (if it can be of some help to anyone)

My question is pretty the same.
I'm thinking about NB or WP in a LP-style guitar. Neck and body will be made out of mahogany, ebony fretboard 25", string-thru. About the "top-wood" i'm not sure yet.
For amplification i'm using an ENGL Blackmore which hasn't got the amount of bass which i would have liked.
The sound i'm looking for is powerfull and thight bass and mids with not too much treble.
Heavy distortion is pretty important for me, but i'm not turning the gain-poti (II) over 14:00 o'clock.

As i've already read in the BKP-forum the WP could be too much in a mahogany guitar. But i think i'm really looking for this "overkilled" sound. I've listend to a lot of clips, the best to compare i found the "metal"-clips recorded by "dheim" http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=15253.0;attach=5113 http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=15253.0;attach=5114
After this i've found my favorite, but i'ts recorded with a basswood guitar. => How does basswood affect the sound?
Valentin

ps: Sorry for my "swiss"-english...

some alnico warpig videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKabTWdWfmg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOoNGks7vpo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYM-W3vYOUE

different amps though
I only played the warpig through a Laney with a mahogany Ibanez RG

the nailbomb in my lp custom sounded pretty brutal through my friend's amps
one is a handbuilt head based on the engl 530 and Fireball, but with a 100w soldano style power amp, frontloaded 4x12 cab with celestion v30's and g12h30's in X pattern
the other one is a 60's fender twin combo that he also modded for the ENGL circuit with a custom made 50w greenback clone
even the 1x12 combo sounded HUGE with nailbombs, so I don't think you would miss that with a blackmore and a bigger cab

Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

Wow, thanks for your fast answer. I mostly liked the modded marshall clip that sounds very similar to what i'm looking for. After your post i'm sure that i'll read and listen more about these two, before i'll buy a calibrated set. But i'm sure it will be a BKP!
