new hobby, unfortunately ended with another BKP forum scar ;)
« on: November 22, 2009, 01:03:21 AM »
well, now I know how Afghan felt a few weeks ago, some people are in a far worse position than myself, but I've ended up with a macho facial scar and needing some dental work :( :)

you probably noticed i've not been too active on the forum recently. in fact i've reawakened an old hobby of mine - cycling - and have been pimping my bicycle rather than my guitars for a change. actually i got it working pretty nice before crash today.

anyway, to cut a long story short, cycling somewhat briskly to a local bike shop today due to the rain, small dog runs excitedly out infront of me. I braked to avoid the dog. Dog is fine, I part company with the bike, nasty cut on my chin and smashed teeth.

not what i was planning for the afternoon, though i must say the ambulance people, and everyone at the hospital were super nice.

might sell the bike, bit down about the likely scar, and unsure how much the dentistry is going to end up costing :( could have been worse though.

at least my hands are fine and can play equally as badly as before ;)

the thing about selling the bike it I was just getting it really in good form. was under 9.5kgs and with a bit more tweaks it could have been within spitting distance of 9kg I reckon. might finish pimping it and then sell it..

Sorry to hear that gwEm.

It's not much of an upside, but I guess the scar will add to your piratical look.

Are you selling the bike to raise cash or because the accident has put you off?  I can understand why it would, but it seems a shame to give up something you liked doing.

Ouch, I hope you recover well Gwen. I'd echo what the others have said, it would be a shame to stop doing something you enjoy because of a freak accident-think of all the times you have ridden and have not had any problems. Besides, you can tell the grandkids that you were attacked by a Conger Eel that had escaped from the back of a fish lorry thus saving the lives of countless people in a nearby bus queue.

thanks for the good wishes guys!

yeah, was going to give up due to the accident. my first love is music really, would hate to damage my ability to play an instrument, wether it be guitar or keyboards.

feeling a bit better about it this morning, probably see how I feel in a few days. chin wound is a bit smaller but a bit more raggedy than i thought it would be. the doctor made a good job of the stitches, bless her. obviously wondering have the young laidez will react to this :( as philly q says the jolly roger axe may help, the girls love pirates.

Best wishes Gwem. I really don't like bike accidents. I've had a few and every time I even think of one it makes me shudder.

The chin wound may give you a Harrison Ford type look.

I think I hate being indecisive.

Sorry to hear about the accident mate, it sounds nasty.

As you know I can totally empathise with how you're feeling.
At first you get shock, then panic about how they have treated the wound, them you resign yourself to it but then it kinda washes all back over you again.

Well, my advice.....

If you want to minimise the scar KEEP THAT CUT DRY and DON'T touch it for as goddam long as you can!

If they stitched or glued it then it will be clean and that should be the last time you go near it for 12+ days.
When that time is up twice daily (morning and night) use Bio-oil http://www.bio-oil.com/en/scars/index.html which you can get from the chemist and is a generally great moisturiser as well as scar treatment.

It has really helped break down all my scar tissue and reduce the red mark massively...

It's has worked so well that I now have people thinking I made a big deal out of a small cut! (trust me, it was DEEP & NASTY)
The dentists will put you in the poor house but they can work miracles so that will be sorted and the bill forgotten in time.

Keep calm and avoid the mirror for a while and I assure you it will work out well.

If you are in North London and you fancy meeting for a beer or a coffee & a chat - shoot me a p.m. dude.

Sorry to hear about your accident.  Riding in London usually means you have to watch out for pedestrians and car doors.  Don't let the accident put you off the bike.  I've come off a few times, especially when I first started to use cleats rather than pedals (but I guess I don't have as far to fall as you  :D).  Seriously, I hope you're ok.  As for the hands, just make sure you have a good pair of bike gloves (btw. my lightest bike is 7.7kg!).
