Anyway talking about metal bands ect. When I go into it in the 80's obviously it was a lot different to the Goat Colostomy genre but for me it was just a bit of a laugh. I liked the music that i listened to but didn't take it seriously.

I still LOVE metal but I just can't get all po-faced and serious about it any longer.

It is too divided.

If I hear something that grabs me, nothing will deter me from digging deeper into the artists catalogue or the style in general and that is no different to the first time I walked into "OUR PRICE" and bought a metallica tape!

It seems too easy for all concerned to keep music compartmentalised and "underground" - I think it takes real guts and loads of investment to go out and try to convert or introduce people to new music...

Channels of communication are so personalised that if you only ever want to listen to or discuss Hip Hop/Doom/Folk/jazz you need never be exposed to anything else.  :?

Shame.

I'm gonna off listen to some tapes of "The Friday Rockshow" wearing my Gimp Mask and have a wank over old picture's of Vanessa Upton...

There's actually probably more variety in metal than in any other genre I can think of (provided you don't consider "world music" a genre, which you shouldn't, 'cause it's a ridiculous umbrella term) there's a breadth within it that doesn't really exist in anything else, at least insofar as I've discovered. The "it all sounds alike" thing just smacks of ignorance, to me. I know nobody is strictly saying that, but I can see it coming.
