Gibson stock in the UK
« on: January 20, 2010, 03:52:27 PM »
Speaking of Gibson, I'd be grateful for forum member's opinions on where the best stuff that comes into this country ends up - i.e. which shops get the "A" stock?

Guitar Village, GuitarGuitar and Coda seem to get most stock?

Peter Cooks seem to get quite a lot too, but it's a long time since I've been there.  And maybe Andertons?

Try World guitars http://www.worldguitars.co.uk. If their Gibson stock is like their PRS stock they'll have nice stuff.

We're off down there this weekend to look at expensive shitee I can't afford!

Guitar village get loads of stuff from Gibson. They also get quite a lot of the signature series - over the last few months they've had the Jimmy Page, Billy Gibbons, Mike Bloomfield and Jeff BEck models. No doubt they'll get the Slash one in stock.

They've also been forced to receive some of the Zoot SGs.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Their website says they've got Collings stuff.  I'd be interested to know what they're like, they look amazing (in a genteel kind of way).

I tried a Collings out at Guitar Village. Very nice indeed but way too expensive for me! I woudl also be worried about putting a dent or scratch on it.

Are you going to be entering the 'guess the spec' competition?

Yes, I'll be bringing 800 disguises and entering multiple times.

Thanks everyone - I'd already sussed Coda and Guitar Village, thanks for the other tips.

As for World Guitars, they're just up the road from me.  If PRS's are your thing you will soil yourself when you walk in there. Just loads of stunning and often rare PRS's, beautifully presented in a really cool old magistrate's building.  It's very impressive and the guys who run it are very friendly and enthusiastic.  I keep an eye on their website in case they get the kind of Gibson I'm looking for in stock, I'd like to shop with them on principle because their attitude is so good.

I didn't realise GV had them, I must have a look sometime.  Not with a view to buying, way too expensive, as you said!  They do look too pretty to scratch, not at all the kind of guitars which would suit a relic look!

Nope, Peter Cooks have had a "falling out" with them over their prices and apparently and no more stock comes their way. :?

That's a shame, they were always good for (relatively) cheap Gibsons.  Not that I was planning on buying any more.

Ray Miller's pals. Gibson uk is a one man operation, and it seem sto be the guys that have been mates with Ray for years who get all the goodies. Especially GuitarGuitar. That's why Soundcontrol got such good Gibson stock too, for the short while they were still in Business after Gibson UK came into being.

I've been in before. I must say they make a good cuppa and it's one of the best shops I've been in.

Yep - they've got a couple of City Limits in stock - click on the 'other' section on the solid body guitar menu.
