A tough one as I do really want to give building a guitar (or a body at least) a go but also like the idea of having a relatively hassle free approach to putting a guitar together i.e. these guys or warmoth.

Don't forget All-Parts, Stew Mac and Musikraft (the latter I'm hoping to do a build with later this year) for finished bodies and necks.

Hendrix Monterey please.

They do look really good, and the website as well.

Has anyone bought any stuff from this company? http://relicguitarstudio.com/

Consumer Direct Tips for Buying Online

http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/before_you_buy/online-shopping/tips

  • A company might have a great website, but that doesn't mean it's law-abiding.
  • Make sure you know the trader's full address - especially if the company is based outside the UK. The internet makes buying from abroad easy so it’s important you know your rights.
  • Don't assume an internet company is based in the UK just because its web address has 'uk' in it - check out the physical address and phone number.

Just saying...

You'll have to excuse the sarcasm in my comment and I also have to ask, have you got a grudge or something against them as that's a strange first post?

So the internet spreads outside the borders of the UK, wow, thanks for that, I'd have never known...

The site is hosted in LA in that there Yanky-land, probably on a time sliced server somewhere near my own stuff hosted by the same company. Dreamhost if you're wondering, more than likely in their LAX based facility. ;)

It's nice that you care about my online well-being, but I find that paying for stuff with a credit card gives me all the protection I need, as if it goes Tits-Up™ I can file a charge-back against them and it's then responsibility of my credit card company to claim the cash back off the online vendor.

I didn't ask for advice on how to shop online, I asked if anyone had done business with them as I am interested in the quality of the goods they have for sale.

As someone who builds illegal guitars, I know where these guys get their parts: Monsterrelic. I am not sure that Monsterrelic parts are licensed, however, but I recognize the manufacture.

I just took a look at the monsterrelic site.
It's exactly the same stuff, same stock photos, etc. In fact, if you go to the dealers section you see that relicguitarstudio is listed there.

I'm not saying the stuff isn't good (I think their Rory Gallagher Strat looks better than the Fender version) but they don't make it clear that they are importing everything from Singapore.

Yep the Monster Relic post was the most informative here, it's told me everything I need to know about Relic Guitar Studio.

I have had decent luck with Musikraft parts. Finishes, not so great - but I have only gotten one finished guitar body from them (I could not get that color lacquer in Ukraine) so I do not have a good sample size to work from.

A lot of people recommend USACG, although they are not licensed Fender and therefore require a bit of re-work. I have never used them.

Re: RelicGuitarStudio: I am not saying not to use them, a lot of people use Monster Relic parts. For instance, Monster Relic is the only source I can find for Fender 1969 reverse pearloid pickguards, although the Monster Relic guards are truly cr@ppy from the standpoint of accuracy.

Just you should know what you are getting.

I'm not bothered about 100% historical accuracy. What do the people you know say about the bodies and the necks?

Me neither. As long as it looks great, plays great, sounds great and is a good price it's okay by me.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Not from these guys, but I did purchase an SG relic form Blackpoole Relics and it is very nice indeed. Not sure what pups are in it but they are surprsingly very nice as well.  Thought for sure I'd have to repalce them straight away.  The relic work is excellent as well.  They don't have a website, but you can find them on Ebay.

Monster Relics has some sweet looking stuff . Nothing like a battered maple on maple neck. Too cool.
